      Well all, I've just been appointed moderator, so I'm setting the ball rolling with a request for requests.

      Got a story to tell? The Chronicles page hasn't had any new submissions for quite some time (Buttered Cats tales excluded, of course). Submit something and you may well get the spotlight.

      Important News? A great new plug-in in the works? The Newswire is there for announcements like that, it's up to you guys to make it work. Submit worthy items and they will be published.

      Problems, comments, queries, rants? Post it and I'll see what I can do.

      The Ares community is a vibrant place, people, let's see the talent emerge. Let's see your opinions.

    • ...but make sure you proof read it. Don't brush off a post like you would a web board post, this is serious. Look for spelling errors, stupid grammatical errors, and poor formatting. The latest news wire article's line spacing as all off, and I had to correct it. I know this is sort of heavy handed, but I think its better if everything looks nice and pretty. 😉 So just read all your stuff over before it goes up, and everyone will be happier.

    • I'll second that. The only two Chronicles articles waiting at the moment aren't really suitable for publication at all.

      And Pax, sorry about that priority problem- I placed the admin e-mail as high priority, so all replies become "high priority". Sigh.

    • I don't know if this is the right place to post this and I mean no offense but I am failing to see the strategy in certain parts of Ares. For instance level 15, which I have not beaten, and the level where the passenger liner is attacked by a Salarian carrier. I see no strategy here. Its more of luck on the liner one. I beat it simply cause I killed it a second before it killed me. On the 15, I hear the best way to beat it is to just build a LOT of cruisers and send them to the enemy planet. This doesn't strike me as strategy. Very few games have strategy and I think the term is too loosely thrown around. I very much enjoy Ares and I think its a great game but I don't see the strategy. I mean, Myth definetly has strategy, more of tactics I guess, the position and type of unit and many things take effect. Starcraft has some strategy since it does have a slight elevational advantage and its important to know counters for each unit; however, Ares, though extremely entertaining and well made, doesn't strike me as having loads of the stuff. I did hear that certain types of units are better against other types than others which would change my mind so... I really do enjoy Ares, I just feel like I'm missing something and going through the game with the wrong approach? any comments would be appreciated...thanks

    • Firstly, if your not registered, go to trash talk so you can make your own topic. Second, Think about it, it's still a strategy, blitz them all. On later levels it gets harder.

    • Play some net games some time, there's lots of strategy in those. Especially the levels like Location Location Location or Scratching Post even. Then there is far more strategy. The computer doesn't really respond yo your actions the way a human does. You're forced to come up with clever schemes that will fool your opponent into making a mistake.

      As for submissions, sorry about all the typos in my chronical, the spell checker for mcwrite 2 isn't great, and my own spelling isn't all that wonderful either.

    • Ugh. Location has ZERO strategic value, sorry.

      The extent to strategy on that map is:
      1. Build as many gunships/cruisers as you can with starting resources
      2. Set them to follow your three carriers
      3. Rush the opponant.

      Most of the time the enemy carriers will be spread out, or, if not, you can babysit their bunker or planet, whichever is open. Once you have a resource advantage, rush the carriers. Ba bum. Most of the time the enemy will have burned some number of resources on an ATR, so you're ahead in units anyway. Keep your carriers close and its an easy win.

    • With all do respect I dont think youve been thinking hard enough or at all as to what stratagys yiu could use. I thought Yo Ho Ho was impossible till I took a couple minutes to think through all the possibilitys, then I remembered the Tractor Tug's escorts and figured if I sent them ahead to take the hits from the Sal Carriers bigfugginggun I would get enough time to blow the crap outta it. And it worked. Im just saying that a good stratagist can beat almost any opponent.
