      Hey all. I'm writing a fairly substantial plug with Hera, involving a new race nested between Obish, Ishmian, and Gatori space (a flashpoint for conflicts). I have made some progress, but I can't seem to do the briefing graphics right. Here's what I need:

      1. How do I MAKE 3-D ship pictures? and with all that alien writing around them?
      2. How do I IMPORT pictures and use them in Hera?
      3. How do I IMPORT a new map? Is that similar to importing new music as well?
      4. Finally, How do I MAKE new rotating sprites? Does this require purchassing ResEdit or other expensive programs?

      Well, render them at an angle you like, and put them on the lined background (which you can probably put together). You're probably best off copying and pasting snippets of alien lettering randomly.

      Make it the right size, and put it into the scenario file with PICT ID that the default map is in.

      Render them, put them together with in the composite style shown in the manual, and use Hera to import them.

      And ResEdit is free...

      Pallas, I think that he doesn't know that you use a 3-d modeller to make ships. Gotta love the resedit expensive comment too 😉

      Dan, you need a free 3d modeller like POV-Ray ( (url="http://"http://www.povray.org")www.povray.org(/url) ) There is another free program called Mechanisto and it's available on the EV(O?) addons page. POV-Ray is far superior.

      All the other free modellers have disappeared due to either being pulled(strata, pixels 3d) or having their parent company crash and burn(Blender).

      Oh, if you have $15 and a credit card(or can borrow the card) you could order issue #50 of (url="http://"http://www.digitmag.com")www.digitmag.com(/url) which has Strata Studio Pro 2.5. Update it with the 2.5.x > 2.5.3 updater available free on (url="http://"http://www.strata.com")www.strata.com(/url) and you'll be set(look for tutorials at (url="http://"http://www.stratacafe.com")www.stratacafe.com(/url) )

      If you ask me very nicely I'll give you a freware version of Strata 3D 3.0.2, since I got mine from several nice people on the boards

      Thank you guys! So I admit, I'm a novice, but I looked up Strata online and the latest version is in the 400$ expensive range. I'll try out the free stuff first, but if that fails (or just plain sucks) I'll ask you nicely, Jager.

      I'll keep you all informed as it goes.

      Thanks for the advice. One last thing. How did they make those AWESOME Ares movies??
      Is it even conceivable for an ambitious plug-in writer who doesn't really know computer programing to make something that cool?

      Yes, now we need to set up a time that you will be on AIM because its in 4 8MB parts, and I dont have sufficient time to do it without time off ;-). I'll tell you my next day off tommorow night, on this topic, then we set up a time, and do it

      The ares movies aren't THAT great imo-low res and it looks like they use the ingame models. They were made using Strata Studio Pro 2.5.3 ( same as the free version on CD i linked to above and far better than strata 3d 3 ) 🙂

      (EDIT: Oh, the movies(at least some of them) for Marathon : Invasion are made using the FREE POV-Ray and they're as good as the standard fare in my opinion.)

      Um...Patrick, I downloaded POV-Ray 3.5 but it will not open. It says I have an Error type 3. Usually type 3 means some kind of memory problem is involved, but I expanded it's alloted memory (by alot) and it still won't open!! Help please!!

      Jager, looks like it is cool, I think I found it elsewhere. Thank you very much for your offer, and sorry about all the stupid inconveniences my computer has.       The stuffit expander did the trick. Now I just have to figure out how to use the program!
      I'm working on the tutorials, so my plug might be delayed about a month 🙂

      well Shrout1, youll be hitting me up for a lot, most likly after i get my Cable/something better than T1 (still dont know if I want to test that). I'll be setting up my eMac as a server(8 weeks and i have it, it comes with X.2 Server, YAYA). and will host stuff on my 4 80GB drives(1 bult in, 2 firewire ones and a USB shutter)
