Okay, here's the deal.

I open up Hera, click "Edit Objects," the window loads, and then, in the list of objects (gatori cruiser, etc) the following happens. First, all I can see in the list is the first item on it. Then, about three seconds later, it vanishes. I can still click on the list randomly and the rest of the window reacts, but I have no idea what I'm clicking on. Also, the "select sprite" button is always disabled, even on something that should have a sprite. What's wrong?

Yeah, I used to have this problem. I ran HERA on my performa 5260/120 under system 7.5.5 and I had invisible lists. It's not really a problem as if you just click in the list then you can navigate up and down using the arrow keys.
Now I recently bought an 8100 and a G3 card, running OS 8.1 (soon to be 8.5) and my lists work fine. It's just ARES freezes in mid battle! Damn!

As for the sprites that worked fine for me, and remember you can overlay sprites in the edit initial objects window.

I really don't know how to fix stuff though.
