Everyone knows that cats can see in the octarene.
And anyone who believes that cats can see in the octarene will know that DEATH can see beyond linear time, into the contemporaneous now, then and maybe. So too with the Death of Rats who is in essence and in fact a part of DEATH, and was now was now observing with some (detached) interest the infinite number of station cats that were moving back and forth between the temporal eddies present in the bar.
From the point of view of the cat events were slightly more menacing, in that it could see a lot of Deaths of Rats, an awful lot of them, each one as inevitable as the next.
Cats have small brains, which generally spend their time thinking of the next meal or the next sleep, so it is not unlikely that the cat would be unaware of the visual diffraction effects of temporal eddies on various entities creating the appearance of more than one such entity, in this instance the Death of Rats, all of which were now moving with inevitable purposefulness in the direction of the station cat...
There was in fact only one station cat in existence, and the Death of Rats knew this. It also knew the precise moment in linear time at which this particular moggie was to become deceased. As DEATH is independent of time the Death of Rats was unaffected by any of the time shifts in this area of space.
Reincarnation would of course be an entirely different case, as is the Restaurant at the end of the Universe...
"SQUEAK..." said the Death of Rats.
