    • So guy, how's it done?

    • Yeah thats what I want to know.

I find it scary and yet strangely awesome that I not only understood that, but also understood exactly why and how it would be better, without even giving it any real thought!

      Quoted for purpose of repetition.

    • Okay, here we go: I had help from this little guy.

Note: I am posting this here under the belief that it is really of no help to would-be software pirates. If the powers-that-be think otherwise I will immediately remove it.
Note2: This is not a pilot editor.

(edit) pilotcrypt now available from my site (link in sig)

    • I am afraid to say that there is already a pirated version of Nova. my friend found it when he really wanted to play EVN but didn't want to buy it. (he did end up buying it)

    • If you know where it's distributed from, it'd be a good idea to get the link and send it to Ambrosia.

Also, pilotcrypt doesn't like me. It opens up a console, fails to do something, and quits.

    • usage:

      PilotCrypt /pathtopilotfile

I'm not sure what it does as I don't have a working copy of Nova to test with.

    • JTH if I post the link then all of the smart people who are looking for a Pirated version will know where to find it.

I think the pilot crypt modifies pilot files to have 40 escorts. and I have a hunch you have to drag you pilot file onto it. I don't actually know because I have the OSTC installed right now.

    • Then email the link to somebody at Ambrosia; nobody with intent to steal Nova is likely to intercept the email and figure out where it is. They're more likely to find it themselves with Google.

    • of doom, you could always PM a moderator with the link, and avoid the issue of publicly airing it completely.

    • Yeah, publicly posting the link would be a very bad thing. Heck, taking a joke about pirating the game too far can get you punished, as I discovered back when I first joined the boards with my first and only idiot post. For clarification, wasn't my first post (that was about a quick way to make cash, if I recall), but probably more like my 20th or somewhere in that very general and vague ballpark.

    • Wow, just looked that post up. Sure seems like a while back. I came around about a year after that.

I wonder what my first post was like... I'll look it up.

Edit: not surprisingly, it was in the EVDC. Lets see... April of 05 would have been my... Sophomore year of highschool. Ah yes, I remember that. I had already been fiddling around with NovaTools for some time at that point.

It was your 44th post. Yes, I was bored enough to count all your posts up to that one.
(But don't blame me if I made an off-by-one error.)

    • Wow, must have been easier to find than I thought. I went and looked over some of my ancient posts and found one where I ranted about EVNew being too hard to use and another where I complained about the "do-it-yourself" mindset of the EVN community. Yet, ironically, here I am with a completed TC.

Perhaps my favorite quote I dug up...

Some dream - 1.0.9 isn't even out yet, and possibly won't ever be. 1.0.8 is the newest version.

This is partially the reason I don't think it's a problem to make this tool available. All software is pirated. Period. If someone wants a pirated copy of a certain program they only need to know where to look.

Heh heh. I thought the name would have given some clue as to what it does.

    • I haven't tried it as I said.

    • In case no one's caught on, the tool decrypts pilots. After decrypting it is possible (if you know what you're doing) to edit the pilot's resources by hand using Rezilla's hex editor. Run the tool again to re-encrypt.
