      Consider this project as well

Joshtigerheart beat me to the punch, but I also am seeking assistance in making a tc a reality.

I have been working on a project code-name: Beyond the Unknown for about two years. At this time, I have a solid idea for two stories, a largely completed universe (261 systems)(149 Planets)(176 planet relds)(58 planetary descriptions)(9 nebulas), 38 rendered ships, 3 interfaces, 17 weapons. The weapons have no graphics other than sprites, and I only have 3 missions that still don't work. Sol descriptions give a brief post 2008 history of humanity, while setting an oppressive mood.

You are Buckaroo Bonsai (or other name of a fringer); you were born on a fringe world and quickly made a name for yourself because of your multitude of talents. You have spent the last ten years of your life serving as first officer on the freighter Demetri, saving your share of the missions take in order to one day by a shuttle of your own. Security is a high priority to the Traxis and there are certain limitations on your freedoms that have been deemed justifiable to the Core Council of the Triaxis. Travel to the core planets requires the correct paperwork. You will try to eak out a living in a restrictive setting, possibly siding with libertarian fringier rebels hiding out in the un-colonized regions. As the story progresses you will travel beyond human space and find a expansive galaxy filled with different races with their own problems. you will enlist the help of these races to help your people, but at the same time the Triaxis will have it's eyes on expanding their hegemony further out among the stars.

You are Pierre Rothschild (or other name of a wealthy heir), son of one of ruling members of the Earth Axis Core Council. you have spent the last year on an exchange studies trip to New Cordoba were you worked on the nano-biological distribution of proteins in wheat. Your work increased the effectiveness of the process by fifty percent, because of this more people will be properly nourished on the colonial planets. Upon returning to Earth for your graduation, your father greets you with the imprint card for a new Mercedes Cruiser. you earn much more money than Bonsai for easier missions involving going to social functions ie: parties, diplomatic dinners, and ambassadorial envoys. You start with a gunboat escort, and would have a easy time assembling an freighter fleet to amass a small fortune. As the story develops Pirates (rebels) become more and more active, forcing the Triaxis to clamp down on trade routes and increase it's military activity. as the game progresses the barriers of the nebulas will be overcome opening routs of trade and conquest. The Triaxis becomes one of many powers competing for dominance.

Hidden behind the conflict, forces move unknown to the majority of the galaxies population. The coming of Ragnarok is upon us, secure the god power, and face ultimate destruction.

The races of Beyond the Unknown should be roughly based on the races of Norse mythology, The Elfenhimen, the Jotunn, the Ćsir, the Vanier, Etc.

The file is currently 25.4 mb, so please let me know if you wish to participate and how I should go about distributing the files.

I wish to see this project eventually completed, and wish it to be of a very high quality, however, getting into law school is proving to be most demanding. I have very little time to produce any work as of late, and when I do I feel as though I am not doing what I should.

Now I will outline a number of requirements that I have:

      1. Quality is key. If your product is not well done, with thought for continuity and depth, it will not be acceptable. Action must flow from one episode to the next. I plan on having a very complex social structure with characters with integral roles, relationships and personal goals, regardless of the size of the role. This is the way of reality, we are all connected through our social networks, and can use them to achieve goals in life. Flowcharts seem to be a way to keep such relations in perspective but any other ways will also be considered. Apart from story and missions being of good quality, continuous and deep, graphics submitted must also be continuous and of an admirable quality.

      2. Story-line must flow. This plug-in should be a long one. Act one: Triaxis Space: civil unrest and oppression. Act two: Overcoming the barriers of the nebulas and encountering new life, Diplomacy and interstellar friction. Act Three, A new threat to all, the Ćsir, and their god-power. Act Four Ragnarok and a new beginning. As a long plug in their needs to be deaths of friends and loved ones that is felt over long periods of time, romances formed amounts NPCs, as well as the main character, who may or may not be a intergalactic ladies man (Buckaroo Bonsai).

      3. Characters must be consistent. Religious beliefs, gender, race, sexuality, social rank, personality, life goals, and pre-existing social, industrial, and economic relationships must all be determined when introducing a new character. No shifts in personality when a different writer takes on a preexisting characters please.

      4. This project is to be organized along the principles of a meritocratic hierarchy; after forming a developmental group I will almost certainly stand down from the leading position offering it to the person who's contribution is the best based on quality. If you are worried that your work will not make the cut, get better.

      5. the project leader reserves the right to refuse any contribution, for any reason justifiable in a meritocratic group.

      6. as a full time student my contribution to the project beyond what i release today will be on a convenience basis. I will participate in initial discussions on this board, but realize that I must delegate minimal time to this project.

      7. as a hierarchy there will be a delegation of responsibility based on the principle that the specialization of labour will facilitate continuity, and quality.

      8. amendments to the game must be tabled by a member, seconded by another, then receive a majority vote from all members in order to be made so.

      9. positions that are immediately desired: story line writers, mission programers, graphics designers, sound engineers, editors, and testers.

I have outlined these requirements because I feel that these principles best enable a group to achieve a high quality comprehensive product with little room for errors such as work being duplicated due to lack of organization. Such an organization requires that all members be driven by competition, and the desire to be the best.

Please feel free to question or criticize what I have written; to paraphrase John Stuart Mill: any belief regardless of it's truth must be constantly questioned else it becomes a dead dogma. My organizational techniques may be wrong so you input is desired.

    • I also wish to address the issue of file sharing, once again Joshtigerheart's idea of a drop box is a good one. I have to go to school now but i'll add more later.

    • buckaroo bonzai!! classic
      http://en.wikipedia....Buckaroo_Banzai

i used to watch the movie a lot as a kid. "laugha while ya can, monkey boy"

    • I like it. I have always loved Norse mythology! I can be a story writer, mission bits guy, and tester! you seem to be almost done like 85%ish. why are you now making it an open source TC?

also in norse myth ragnarok never actually happened, Odin saw it in the future.
