    • At one point, I was working on a Stargate mod for EVN, I had some "Snags" though.... (I couldn't make sprites, and I just sucked)

I could start working on it again, when I finish the new version of Vellos revival

EDIT:Oh, and you could try replacing the hypergates with Ori supergates, if you felt like it

    • I actually had this idea after finding an old copy of Escape Velocity on my dad's computer.

Since the callender in Escape Velocity is always set to start in the 2250's, why not set the story in the future, where a devistating war with the Ori forced the declassification of the Stargate Program, and now that everyone on Earth knows about the program, many have gone to space to man Earth battlecruisers or earn their fortunes by trading.

Dude, how do you know all this lol 🆒 . Yeah, Stargate SG-1 idea is brilliant. The only problem is kind of in the title ... the Stargate. How are you going to deal with them? An idea would be to use the Hypergates system in place of the Stargates but then they are meant to be on a planet not in space.

Another problem is that the Stargates are meant to be a link to ALL other gates so if you have too many systems (or places with a stargate) then it wouldn't be easy to manage on a space map.

Its also a good idea like someone said before me to put the show a few years/decades into the future. That way there'd be more ships and Earth could play a larger role but the main characters would probably be dead/retired.

In the newer Stargate SG-1s etc, a major plot device has been the construction of a 'super Stargate' which is basically a giant Stargate in space used for space travel. Currently it's used for the Priors, but if we change that a little we can say that it's been invented for normal stellar travel.

Another way you could implement Stargates is to simply have them implemented in missions. There are (I think) methods to shift players in the middle of a mission, so you could have it go like this:

"Stuff happens. More stuff happens. You leap into the Stargate and are whipped through a blue tunnel of energy, coming out on the other side a bit chilled from the journey through space. (Game shifts player to another planet).

I also like the idea that was posted earlier about being stranded on a far-off world without a Stargate- that sounds like a lot of fun.

I'm willing to help on this if anyone is interested, though I would be making outfits and ships rather than graphics etc. I would LOVE to see a Stargate TC for Nova.

That shouldn't be too hard, just take a screen shot and add some frames to it. But since im on a windows it be a little harder for me. But you could take the ori stargate and photoshop it out and then overlay it ontop of the hypergate bmp which you got from the rled. That would make the animation pretty much taken care of.

I'm curious. Why does this have to be Stargate SG-1? Cant it just be Stargate? Becuase that means it would include or have soem realtion to the Staargate Atlantis. And in stargate atlantis they have stargates in outer space, and therfore ridding you of the problem from stargate sg-1 of stargates on planets.

    • All we have to do is take our time, people. Each of us creates stand alone plugins of our favorite features of the Stargate universe (my personal favorite is the F-302). Then, someone gathers them up together, puts them together, adds missions and any missing things, and Stargate: the EVTC Plugin is ready to take on the world.

Let us start now, for there is no better time!

    • I'm working on a Nova total conversion based on the two Stargate series. I need some help from a serious plug maker. I need a map of the Stargate universe, made up of 3 or 4 galaxies: the Milky Way, Pegasus, Ida, and possibly the Ori Galaxy (I don't know what it's called, or even if it has been given a name). About 75 to 100 systems per galaxy, 2 Supergates per galaxy.

I know it's a tall order, and that is why this offer is only for serious plug makers. At a later date, I will also need graphics for ships, weapons, particular planets, and space stations, as well as sounds for the weapons and the escort voices.

More details will be posted as necessary.

    • hmm, I got all released SG-1 seasons (1-8 in Aus) on DVD, need help referencing or w/e just ask 🙂

If you're serious about doing this, then congrats! You just became a serious plugin maker. I hope you're a big help to yourself on this project.

But seriously, people may be willing to help you out once you get a bit done and show some devotion to the project. But if you want this to happen, you have to take the lead and do a large amount of the work yourself----no one is going to whip up a galaxy just on your say-so.

A good start would be to go to a Stargate board, explain what you're doing, and ask the folks there to contribute planet descriptions. That's how I got EVN Firefly started. (Well, it was a Trek board, actually, but there was a huge Firefly fanbase present on it.)

    • You guys better remember to give all ships multi-jump or something.
      🙂

      adds thread to bookmarks
I'm gonna keep my eye on this..... 😉

    • At the momment, the plug-in consists of about 20 different weapons, 30 outfits, and 2 governments. I haven't been able to do much because I design plug-ins by trial and error. I make the plug-in, I test it, I deside whether a weapon is too powerful or not powerful enough, and then I go back in to alter the plug-in. Without ships or weapons graphics, it's nearly impossible to test this plug-in.

By the way, I wanted to ask. Should I make this as a plug-in, or as replacement Nova files?

    • Are you refering to major plugin or TC? Becuase i dont know of any "plugins" that replace the nova files. Polycon didn't even replace the Nova files, and if it did..then why did it still work on my computer.

    • If it's to be a TC, you may as well replace the Nova files. Keeping them does nothing except increase the game's load time, and you'll find random systems lying around you don't want unless you have more systems than Nova does.

However, using the Nova graphics is certainly possible for testing purposes.

    • Progress is a little slow in making the ships and outfit graphics. Any help in making ships, either official Stargate ships or ships of your own design, would be appriciated. I'm using a little-known Java-based program called Art of Illusion to make the various graphics for the plug-in. It's slow going because I'm just learning how to use the program, and the ships and weapons I have made so far are a little lack luster.

If you have any ships you would like to contribute, feel free to post them here.

Has anyone else used Art of Illusion, and if so, can you give me some tips?

    • I recall seeing Apophis' super-Hatak in Polycon EV. If you can track down the folks who made that, maybe they'll let you borrow the graphic.

    • If I were you, scienceguy, I'd finish the plug before making the graphics.

If you show people a finished plug which needs graphics, they'll be much more willing to offer to make graphics than they will be for a project which may fail.

      @hudson, on Dec 14 2004, 02:00 PM, said in Stargate SG-1 mod?:

I don't think the presence of inter-stella space craft was what Skyfox was referring to. The founding premiss of SG1 is that they have devices that effectively make space ships obsolete. EV's founding premiss is based firmly on space ships. More-over, there's no way you can effectively emulate stargates unless you were to screw with it to the point that the stargates were in orbit and you used hypergates instead.

Fundamentally, SG1 is about planet-side action. To my mind, there's no way you can transfer that to the EVN engine without loosing the core of what SG1 is about.

I agree, I was thinking last night, which Sci-Fi series aren't being done. As far as I know, there isnt really a Star Wars Nova (The New Jedi Order is vapourware) and there is no StarGate series, because Humans have two planets, many missions are Earth based, and there is no way to enter a hypergate code as far as I am aware.

I would play a SG Total Conversion, if it was done, because i love the series. But I don't know how much Id get out of it.

Anyone got news of a StarWars TC? I know of the Smuggler's Run plug-in on ASW.
      </BACK TALK>

      Quote

I've tried this out of curiosity, but no matter what order I put the planets in, the hypergate always shows up on top. Anyone know why?

Yes. No matter what order you put them in, the higher spob IDs appear ontop. Simply renumber them appropriatly. If that doesn't solve it, post back.

      Graphix

Scienceguy is right. The most important thing is the basics, not graphics. Sure it won't look good for screenshots, but if you have a consistent plot, they will be drawn in. Obviously this is not difficult for a Stargate TC, so your most important idea is to place stellars, missions, with holding graphics.

I'm really rubbish at graphics at the moment, so everything in mine looks like its from EVN, EVO or EV. When I find time to master a 3D and 2D graphics program (probably Blender and Bryce5 or Terragen), I will start replacing ships, planet graphics and the suchlike.

I haven;t mentioned it before, because at the moment, I don't really have enough to show it won't be vapourware. I will just say good luck and check the resources the board has. The Non-Technical EVN Bible is extreemly useful, include it's advice now and you will save alot of time later.

I've also played Polycon EV, but quickly lost interest. I also noticed that the Escort ship looks remarkably like a Goua'uld Death Glider.

And on the note on making all the text, weapons, missions, and the map before the graphics, I'm the sort of person who is a little disorganized in his thinking and actions. If I don't feel like working on the descriptions and numbers that govern the Nova engine, then I work on the graphics so that I feel like I have accomplished something.

    • I want your guys' opinion. While designing some of the weapons for this plug-in, I came up with a few questions about some human weapons.

Earth battle cruisers, or BC Class ships, like the BC-303 and BC-304, use a combination of rail guns and missile launchers for attack. Should the rail guns have a finite supply of ammunition, or should they have unlimited ammunition? Also, I have 3 ideas for heavy missiles. The first, called the nuclear torpedo, is a slow-moving, radar-guided missile with high explosive power. The second, called the nuclear volley, fires fires 5 mid-speed, radar-guided missiles in a burst, each with 1/5 the power of the nuclear torpedo. The third, the Trident, is a single large missile, like the nuclear torpedo, that flies out for a second or two, then splits into 5 or six missiles, like the nuclear volley. Which of these designs do you like best?

Suggest your own weapon designs if you please; they may just make it in. A huge TC like this will need a lot of creativity.

    • The project is going really slow at the momment. I have not been able to work on the plug in for nearly a month. I'm making it on my father's G4 Powerbook, which recently became damaged. The wire that supplies power from the power supply to the computer had been bent back and forth so many times that it became severed internally. The worst part is that to remedy the problem, my father has banned me and my siblings from said computer to prevent this from happening again.

I have no back-ups saved externally, so I'm going to have to wait and see if my father lifts the ban.

    • If your father gets a monitor, keyboard, and mouse (which can easily be done for less than $250), he'll have a more comfortable home set-up and, apart from the power button, he'll still be able to ban his kids from physically touching his 'Book. 🙂
