Highway, what did you use to make the sun graphic? I am pretty unsatisfied with SolarCell, maybe I just need practice...
What about gas giants? Does anyone know what ATMOS used to make those?
I've never tried SolarCell, but people said LunarCell was bad... you just have to work it in with the rest of your workflow, make it artistic.
That sun was a picture of our sun, with effects applied in Photoshop.
It's really very easy to make Gas Giants, much eaiser than planets, because they are more gasious, less detail is involved.
This one...
Used simple filters in Photoshop. Including the rings.

It's a plugin for making great-looking planet graphics.

It also plays a mean game of Halo.
One thing to remember also, if a planet or sun looks good at 1400x1400 pixels, it will look good at 300x300 pixels. Its also easier to add detail to a planet that is 1400x1400 than a planet that is 300x300, then it will resolve better once you resize it.
EDIT: I forgot to tell you, don't use artificial clouds, that is a guaranteed way to get a fake-looking planet. Use the real-time satallite cloud images.

I want a MattWalker! How much and what are the system requirements?

Just so you have all the facts; I believe MattWalker was predated by NickAnderson which actually formed the basis for MattWalker's development. It's just a shame that due to usage rights, very little of the artwork created with NickAnderson can be publicly shared. Though his time will soon come.

While the current version of MattWalker is fully Mac compatible (Minimum requirements are 256MB RAM and altivec capability; below that he can have a cup of tea while filters run); due to resource constraints this may change in future versions. As MattWalker is being seperated from the rest of the product "family", certain development tools will no longer be available, and the product may become Windows only.
Unless, say, someone buys him a new iMac.

Then the Mac community will have to do without MattWalker.
I think MattWalker actually uses a OS X emulator.
But to use that feature, it kicks the cost up about 400%
