    • In game talking

      will it work

for a plug i was thinking about having allies that would talk to you.

      for example:
an ally might give you cues when enemys are jumping in or what to do next in a mission.

i was just wondering if this would work. i already hav it worked out how the voices would be activated and i know it would take a lot of space.

feel free to use this idea in your own plug

also on a similar note, does anyone know if nova will have any problems with music during epic battles? i realized that music all the time would be impracticle (i'd have to be distributed on DVDs)

just thought it would be cool to have an EVN tc that was like a squad shooter game.

    • The only way that I know of to have any music or voices pop up in game without using fighter escort voices would be to use either an explosion with a sound that is the music or voice that you want (therefore something must blow up to start the music) or a weapon sound that is the same as the above process.

I think having music or sounds playing continuously would also totally kill respones time from processor overload... The Nova engine is notoriously inefficent when it comes to that kind of thing. Though SOMEONE did do this, I just can't remember who (rmx just got off work and is ubertired). I think that it was for override though.

    • Nah, it could be done with the Pxxx operator, but the player would get pissed if they constantly had to put up with s###ty framerates and annoying music. Limit it to important battles where the framerate is shot anyhow. 🙂 Actually, it's just a cool effect to add to large battles.

    • but it should work fine if it's just a few voices here and there, right?

    • What about getting Pxxx to fire during a battle? It would more or less have to be as the result of a misn spec ship exploding, right? Or some iteration of Neb's Continuous Time Progress whilst flying?

    • Correct. And during a major battle, you won't even notice the extra dot disappearing. You'll be too busy either dodging missiles or just letting them hit you and laughing at the enemies' attempts to kill you from far away. 😛

    • actually the Pxxx could be activated easily by completing ship goals like blowing up all but one of the enemy ships activating a new mission that brings reinforcements and an ally telling you you'd better flee...

i have all the activation stuff worked out i just need to know if it will work

also, couldn't i just tell people before they download it that it may not run on any computer that can run Nova?

    • Yep, if you make a sound telling you to flee, say after a fleet is destroyed, and have the OnShipDone field play that sound as well as starting a silent mission that brings in another fleet, it would work. You could even randomize it, so it would play a different sound each time.
