what's it for?
I was browsing the nova files with EVNEW today,a nd i found a number of buttons that i have never seen in the game, things like "Increase price" or whatever. what are these for and hw are they used?
The oddest thing is, they have remained since the time of EVC. Perhaps they keep it as a red herring, just like the "Secret cheat dialog!" (I dunno if that one is in the WinNova data files)?
I believe that was for the "offer assistance" feature that never made it in, in addition there are things such as "requestition escort" and others. They were either left in because:
a) the developers were lazy
-or-
they were left in as a red herring
Believe me there is allot of unused/unfinished coding left too...
Would that mean editing the game engine, or just the datafiles?
I have a suspicion that these features are passively disabled- that is, we can't use them as we don't know how to use them. I've sat around trying to find desc ids that corespond to them, but this process of making a desc, changing an id and relaunching Nova over and over rapidly lost it's charm.
i have found a window that appears to go along with this button, in nova graphics 3, check out pict number 8514, also of interest is 8516, perhaps someone should look into these?
@Mr Burch: would you perhaps fill us in on this stuff?

Well if I look at the names I guess that "Haggle" is the window where you can accept or ask to lower the price of assistance, and "Capture Assignment" is where you choose if you want a captured ship to be yours or an escort.
(EDIT): Oh, and Matt's the one you want to ask about this stuff. ATMOS did the scenario, not the engine.

I seriously doubt you could reactivate them. I mean even if you can recreate a dialog for the buttons you would have no way to get that dialog to display.
(EDIT): If you expand many of the ditls you can see other items which are otherwise hidden. But the only ones that I could see in-game were a couple of greyed out "Leave" buttons in the bar. Also, there's a ditl called "Gamble" which doesn't seem to be used for anything. Doesn't bear much resemblence to the EV gamble dialog either.

Heh.. being unable to leave the bar. That's a scary thought.
