    • Working on an ambitious multimedia proj...

...with an EVN plug as a part of it.

So what info could you give me on this? At this point, we're focused on worldbuilding and getting art for a collectible card game based on the setting, but any way to re-use resources for... say... an EVN Total Conversion is welcome.

Thanks. If this is the wrong forum, please don't hesitate to banish me to the correct one.

    • 3D models are especially useful for a variety of reasons. 3D models can be rendered as spaceships for gameplay, as outfit item pictures, and as world pictures. As well, 2D or 3D-generated landscapes can be trimmed and used as the landing pictures.

Brief text describing planets or locations can be used as description text for planetary landings. Canon events and such can probably be worked into a mission string(s), although that would take quite a bit of work and writing. Particular characters or persons can be made into 'pers', which are essentially NPCs.

    • What exactly do you want to do? Please be specific.

What I'd like to do is write short stories and a seven-novel series in the world of "The Vermillion Confederation of Free Worlds," this very, very culturally Chinese future humanity, and edit the shared world anthology stuff.

But a friend of mine wants to get into (video and compy) game design, and I'VE always wanted to do writing and worldbuilding for an EV total conversion, so we're just trying to figure out what it will take - besides, of course, upwards of three years 😛 to make an EVN plug based on the Empath Symphony. He'd do the programming and some worldbuilding work, I would do most of the story/character planning and editing.

It's kinda Gundam-y/Robotech, with all the cheese factor (melo)drama that implies, but if it's rubber science than at least the rubber has been vulcanized. It's also infused with a kind of mystical and magical outlook, complete with telempathic powers channeled through science quantum particle physics and "qi control" martial arts (I imagine TelEmp attack powers would be handled as ionization/shield damage...).

To summarize: I need lithum and a reality check badly. Still, why the hell not? I'm in college and it sounds like a nice fun project that'll give me an excuse to enjoy science and humanities courses while I pursue a Business degree.

Given that, what do you think would be the most helpful resources extant, and what would you add?

    • Robotech wasn't cheesy, just the cartoons. The books were superb.

    • Ok Terragen is the landscape tool bryce is the 3d modelling software though its not cheap. If you run a mac then definatley mechanisto if PC probably anim8or and usaully TCs take a long time to do from the graphics to the plot and the in between programing so be prepared to work alot.

    • Quick questions bout melee combat that would help in the planning for this:

How would you make a melee weapon? My guess is a slow normal shot or a short-ranged beam...

Ditto parrying or physical sheilds. Make most beam weapons and cannon shot capable of being shot down by PDF weapons? Or a funky looking shield bubble?

    • I'd use a short beam weapon, although Martin Turner did make a pretty nice "collision" weapon which was used by hostile asteroids and I think it was just a projectile.
Oh, and beam weapons can't be shot down.

    • By "Beam Weapon" I didn't mean the technical term for beam weapon - I meant "Blaster Bolt" sorta weapons, the technical term for which escapes me.

Melee weapon. Why do any energy thingy. A real katana looks much cooler. And much more effective inside a spaceship which really can´t take a wall puncture.
      😉

      Because he wants to?

      Because it's his project?

Because he's asking about the technical means by which such a weapon might be created, not the merits or disadvantages thereof?

And because the EMW's are only for EXOskeletal MEchanical KAbuto (EXO Meka) combat. Hand to hand combat in boarding actions use rapier and katana. Come to that, some normal melee weaps USING VERY LIGHT ALLOYS are used by exomeks too.

Blaise, UE, thank you for your insights. Let's try to keep this civil?
