    • Just Curious, but if you could, would you?

I'm just curious and something that hit me last night. There arn't that many EV Nova editors out there by my count its less than ten, MC, EVONE, EVNEW, Nova Tools, ResEdit (With TMPLs or hexadecimal if your nuts), and then soon there will be my improved version of Theme Maker.

Now I know that most of these are generally good at several key areas and then fall down in others, except nova tools maybe (actually no, it has no support for OS X).

So my question is this, if you could would you have a go at making your own editing program for your own personal use?

Um yes. Because I could make it to my own personal style.

Plus I think I would make a more pictorial program, like EVEdit was (but less buggy) for the newbies out there.

    • yeh, because i was thinking about making the core classes to Theme Maker 3 (the stuff that reads and writes the nova resources) open-source or at least avalible to the public. Of course if i did that then i wouldn't build any high level editors with them, but a lit based TMPL editor.

    • Personally, I like Resedit(NovaTools), but it is still very complicated at times. No, Resedit has no OS X support, but that's why Classic still exists.

    • I am building a ShipForge program. Basically, you input the sprite (minus shield bubble) and it does the rest with a simple UI. At the end you'll have a top quality ship with several variants.

Sounds good, how far along are you?

    • I wouldn't mind a graphical system and stellar placing thingy for Windows... one which doesn't involve installing the .NET Framework.

    • I remember Res-Edit as being really easy to use. Even with my complete lack of plug-in making knowledge I managed to add many ships, outfits, and a major addition to the UE storylne in EVO. Unfortuantely that plug-in was lost in the infamous delete the user accounts so there aren't problems with multiple users incident.
And it was really buggy. But I was usually able to just go back to a copy, or save before it messed something up. But all in all I think it has been the best plug-in editor I've ever used. NovaTools is a close second.

      Doing alright.

      Basic shan processing: almost done.
      Shield bubble generator: barely started.
      General numbers: done.
      UI: coming to that now.
      Want to see some screenshots?

Sounds good, sounds good. Does it work for Windows? Also Yes we would like to see some screenshots

    • No, it doesn't. Sorry.

It uses cocoa for the UI so it'll be Mac OS X only, I'm afraid.

Screenies in a few hours, hopefully.

    • I'm a little confused. What exactly does your program do?

      As would I.

I also want it to store more than the 600? systems it can currently.

    • I would love one that was more script based... like high level code to make lots of similar cröns, for example. Or a way to make lightweight missions easier, like self aborting ones just for the text box, without having to slog through the page of crap.
