Please be patient

I just got Novatools for Mac and I think I installed everything correctly on Resedit, even the upgrade but something seems weird, the weap resource (and a couple of other resources) shows only a bunch of numbers and letters for each item (weapon for example) instead of the normal editing page. Any ideas?

I think you might've missed installing a few of the templates... It sounds like ResEdit is giving you the raw hexeditor instead.

I know it sucks, but in that situation I'd try installing them again.

Can you post a screenshot so that we can determine what is going on?

Fastest might be to trash your ResEdit Preferences file in the finder (after backing it up in case). Launch ResEdit and it'll create a new one. Then go about reinstalling NovaTools in the normal way.

NovaTools, btw, is the fastest editor you can use in OS9 (at least on my old slow 8500). EVONE is great for syst editing, but it crashes a lot. MC is incompleteish, and seems to randomly throw things away. If you're using OS9 or a slow computer this tool is essential in my opinion.

Yeah, just as long as you choose B&W interface. For some reason the grayscale can take a really long time to render on slow machines.

Once you get it working, try this link. It should shorten your learning curve dramatically. But never be afraid to ask for help, it seems that some people here don't even make their own plug-ins, they just wait to help new people with theirs.

Got it, thanks for your help! I just installed everything again. Wow, it's awesome to edit these resources and it's not as difficult as I thought it would be, except for the graphics part which I'm I'm a total ignorant.

BTW, I need more info on NCBs, I didn't find anything helpful in the forum or in the bible. Are those Bxxx tests and sets associated with the MISN resources?

Yep. Also cröns, öutfs, s˙sts, nëbus, etc etc. A lot of resources have NCB set and test fields, and most of them can even use the other operators like Gxxx and Oxxx, etc etc.

NCBs are just arbitrary bits or "switches" that can either be on or off (set or clear). Set expressions can modify those bits - set them, clear them or toggle them. Test expressions can look at those bits and decide on a course of action based on their position.
Ie, An outf tests for b159 and will become available for purchase if it is set. Currently the bit is clear so the expression returns false - the outfit does not make itself available. A misn then sets b159 on completion. The outf's test expression now evaluates to true and it is made available.
