      Fielding an idea

I was testing out the use of a mission controlled fleet to have the effect of a fleet retreating / becoming disoriented when it's flagship is destroyed.

      What I used:
      2 mďsn's
1 extra shďp variant of a selected warship (plus shän), but altered to "Scoop Asteroid Bits," and No (0) Planet weapons.

When a ship has the "Scoop Bits" behavior set it becomes annoyingly pacifistic, reverting to a wimpy trader's A.I. despite what you set for the inherent A.I. However, if used as a special ship with a behavior to "Attack enemy spöbs," and lacking the means to attack spöbs, the mission behavior will override the ship's natural behavior; and since it can't attack planets, it will attack enemy ships instead.

The first mission summons and names the "Flagship," and sets its goal to destroy it. In the OnShipDone field, the abort command is given for the second mission. The second mission summons a number of the described ships, and tells them to attack Spöbs.

When the "Flagship" is destroyed, the second mission is aborted, and these "Warships" will revert to their inherently cowardly behavior. After that, a once vicious fight becomes a whole lot easier.

I think this would make for a very interesting way to turn the tide of a battle in-flight.

    • Very ingenious.

Anyways, I think I could find a use for this in Retribution- definitely. I like the idea a lot. Another thing with which to screw over prospective Windows players with, though (of which I am one)- the 'attack planets' AI crashes the PC version.

I will finish Retribution- I'm too close not to do so at this point, and even if I were to suddenly quit (which I plan not on doing), the source materials required to finish the plug-in are all present. But I may never get to play it.

      I hate PC 1.0.6 .

    • Eugene, that's truly ingenious, as UE R&D said. I can't believe that the "Scoop Bits" behavior makes it revert to a Wimpy Trader behavior. Still, this could be put to all sorts of uses. It could be used to actually make sense of those "destroy flagship" missions that made no sense(see the "Destroy Voinian Dreadnaught" mission from EVO. I had a super powerful armada of warships, and I was able to destroy the Dreadnought without having to attack the other parts of the Voinian fleet. Since I hadn't annihilated the rest of the fleet, the comp recorded it as a failure. Then I had to go back an do it again... without my escorts.) Don't worry, UE R&D, I'm sure Contraband will be able to fix the problem soon, pipeline has stated that he won't allow the problem to go unfixed(he better not). Mac users for Windows equality !

    • Brilliant.

    • Truly amazing, Eugene. Taking into account and will be integrated into the Arpia 2 plug! (you get a mention in the ReadMe ;))

    • Eugene's the man with the plan! Brilliant! I'll definately be using this in the future.

    • Quite ingenious.

    • Awesome idea. 🙂

That AI behavior also crashes EVN under Panther I believe.

    • Lots of stuff is wrong with Panther. I can't even run Blender properly;it just crashes.

Wierd. I've used Blender on Panther (although I don't have a Mac It was somewhere else) with no problems.

    • I wonder if the same thing could be appkied to make a ship's escorts only attack you after you've destroyed said ship. It might be possible, but then again, it might not. It would probably have to be mission specific or something... But it is a possibility :), and it would be mas coolio.

The crews at Ambrosia and ATMOS are doing our level best to resolve the WinNova situation.

By the way, Panther has always behaved very well for me.

My copy must be a New untamed Breed (I'm being as patient as possible). Or an update just fixed some bugs and added new ones. Or Bill Gates is doing something while I have my back turned!

Never have your back turned on ol' billy... you never know what he has planned with your backside!...

Anyways, great idea for a mission type, it'll help out my Wing Commander TC for sure!

    • Thank you, Eugene. Expect major use.
