      I have it all made, and heh, sort of textured okay ( Contact if you'de like to texture this one 🙂 im just a modeler ). Ready to go into Nova. What program would allow me to do this? It is made with 3d Studio Max and can be used as . . .

    • You have to render it a certain way, as a movie of the ship spinning (more complex if you want special effects), and then use a program to turn that movie into individual frames arranged in a grid. Then you need to make masks, and at that point you can import into an EVN editing program, such as MissionComputer.

      Hopefully, someone can come along and give you more specific, less useless instructions. But this is the general concept :).

    • The format of the graphics in EVN starts out as an image that is a grid of all the frames of the ship turning, and animating or banking (if wanted).

      For the Mac, the NovaTools people created a program that will take a movie rendered of these frames, and automatically lay them out into a grid. I don't know of any such program for the PC, but you can render the individual frames and carefully assemble them in a graphics program such as Photoshop.

      The most typical, basic arrangement is a 6x6 grid, with 36 frames. The first should be the ship pointing straight "up". (In Nova, ships are rendered on a slight slant; I don't recall off the top of my head what the exact measurements were - search on this forum. Still, it's straight upward/away from the camera.) Each successive frame should have the ship rotated in increments that divide into 360°; for 36 frames, each successive frame should be 10° more rotated (clockwise) than the previous one, ending at 350° - giving you frames from 0° to 350° in 10° steps.

      For different numbers of frames (more frames are good for large ships to make their spinning action smoother), divide accordingly. For example, a 72-frame ship would rotate in 5° steps.

      Extra frame sets, such as banking or animations, come below the main set. I don't have an expanded image on hand to show you how that's set up.

      All sprite sets also need a mask, which is a black-and-white mask for the ship; black is hidden, white is opaque. I've found that the best way to make one is to render your ship again with a 100% glowing white texture, antialiased, then apply Threshhold in Photoshop with a value of 64 (or whatever works well for that particular ship).

      These images can then be brought into your plugin. They can work as PICT resources, but usually they're then converted into rleD and rle8 resources, using a utility. I don't know if one exists for PC, but it's not essential.

      For ships, you then create a shän resource pointing to your images, in which you enter the size of each frame and how many frames you have, along with other information such as weapon exit positions.

      Stuff like weapon glows, engine glows, or running lights, you should be able to figure out by looking at Nova's existing ships and reading the EVN bible. You set up and import the images into the plugin in the same way, but you specify them as whatever they are in the shän resource.

      I use a Mac, so I can't help you with the specifics of using your editor.

      Multiply the number shown above by 10 (or 5 if 72 frames, or 360 / number of frames for anything else) to get the degree angle it should be at. If you want banking graphics, or alternate graphics, do the exact same thing except with the appropriate rotation or whatever, then place it directly underneath the original, and change the BaseSetCount to match this.

      The camera looks down at the ship at a 45 degree angle, and the light comes from 45 degrees to the left, and is elevated about 30 degrees.

    • Wow! Thanks for all the great info! I have decided to try and start a new main story for EV with a new race i've made. I'll post some shots of my models and outfits soon, so look out. 🙂 Until then, a few questions...

      1.) When I render my movie, what resolution does it need to be at? I know to render 360 frames, but are you saying to stop it spinning at 350?

      2.) I understand the frame cutting every 10 degrees, I can do that easy, but I'm not sure how to lay these out. I'm quite familiar with photoshop but I don't understand what you meant. !!( EDIT : I see how they are layed out by looking at the IDA Frigates 8x8. I'm just not sure how I'm going to cut my movie into that! )!!

      If someone would be so kind as to maybe make a little picture showing me how they are layed out I would be very greatful.

    • Ah okay. So I talked to Azratax ( EVNEW ), he said I have to render 36 frames. And do the 10 degrees each frame. But he doesn't know how I should do the 6x6 array because im running on WINDOWS. Any help would be great! Thanks!!!

    • I'm afraid there's no easy solution. You'll just have to render the frames individually and then paste them into place using Photoshop manually.

      Or you could ask someone with a Mac to use the movie->grid program for you. I know of no Windows equivalent, though.

    • Basically, your first frame is at 0°. Then you rotate it clockwise 10° for every frame, so you stop at 350°, because 0° IS 360°. You then lay them outin a 6x6 grid in the same order you would read a book. Understand?

      What do you mean by "Azratax (EVNEW)", by the way? Azratax and Aprosenf are different people. 🙂

    • Ah yes, I know perfectly well what you mean. I'm staring at the lightning and IDA Frigate arrays right now. I'm just saying, How am I supposed to set mine up? Do I crop my picture down and then lay them right next to eachother?

      Alright I think im close to getting this to work 🙂 After I get my array set up I'll have Azratax ( Hosts the site for EV New, and beta tested EV New for Aprosenf ) help me out, but If I have any more problems Ill post under this thread. Once I get this all figured out I'll write a nice tutorial for everyone on this...
