    • DiD: Favorit toadstool hunting grounds?

I need to gather toadstools for the Hag's 2nd payment and I'm about 100 short at this point. I've looked all over and I'm coming up empty. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've picked up all I could find with the first 3 princesses and while I was having the sword done, and I'm out of ideas for where to look. I'm going screen to screen at this point, but I'm sure I'll get bored long before I stumble upon the cache I must've missed.

Rubber Ducky, if you don't mind saying, how many toadstools are available in the plug?

Hi striper. Welcome to the boards. The best areas to collect are along the road from Gwyden Camp to Berglum (you probably know that already), in the Northern Territories, and in Wyrm Valley. They also grow in a few select spots south of Fantrima but they are more rare there. They have established themselves near the Hag as well, perhaps because the spores were carried by the breeze blowing across her island. The Green Mushroom likes shade and will almost never be found growing in the sun. That is why they are usually found off the paths and open spaces. There is one square (I won't say where) that has very fertile soil. If you don't decimate the crop on the first pass they will grow back by the time you return. In some squares you may find more than 30 while in other places only a few grow. Hint: Sometimes taking a break with a jug of cider might just be worth it.

How many are available? Well, that depends. If you are playing DiD through the first time you can collect about 544 total and you need 350 to satisfy the Hag's demands. If you play this plugin all the way through and then de-select it, and then with the same character decide to play it again you have a somewhat greater challenge. PoG "remembers" only the ones that grew on the new maps and they do not grow back for the second play-through. On the second time through you can find about 411 which is still more than you need. I say "about" because I don't know if I can recall where they all are but those are the numbers I can account for.

      Happy hunting 🙂 ~RD

    • RD, thanks for the reply. Say I completely removed the mushrooms in this one particularly good spot, would they ever grow back? I made it a point of getting every mushroom in every screen I visited because you say in the Readme that they don't grow back.

I've checked all three of the places your hint made me think of, and none of them had any new mushrooms evident, so I'm hoping I haven't wiped them out in that area. With 500+ available I should be able to get to 350, guess I'll try walking from fantrima to berglum again.

If you leave (or overlook) some they will still be there when you return. The ones you pick do not grow back during the course of the game. (There is one exception - a tiny bug - that lets one Toadstool grow back indefinately but I'm not telling anyone where it is.)

Each area mentioned has several squares with growth. There are over 30 squares in which they grow. You will have to wander around a bit in each of those areas. I'm sure you can find enough of them if you search well. Hint: Stick close to the tree line and you will see some just off the open areas which are not marked with any signs. ~RD

    • I thought I had picked all of the toadstools and could not find enough at that point in the game as well. If you continue on with the game, the quests will probably take you to a place where more are growing (about 100 more or so), enough to meet the demand.

RD - have you ever thought about letting the character sell the extra toadstools at the end of the plug-in to the hag, or trade them for potions?

A sequel to this plugin is in the works which will allow you to do the following things:

      A) Sell your surplus 'shrooms' to the Hag (who has now moved to Upper Berglum) but no more can be harvested.

🆒 Retain the Blade Diabolus after de-selecting Damsels in Distress.

      C) Retain any cider jugs you did not previously consume.

      D) Share a few more ciders with Chazwit.

      E) Further expand your travels within the Kingdom of Garendall.

      F) Find new quests. Meet new people.
