    • Texturing Tutorials for Photoshop

Does anyone know of any good tutorials for Photoshop? One that deals specifically with making EVN-style textures would be especially helpful, but anything that will show me how to composite different images together (according to their alpha channels) would be extremely useful.

I don't know of any, but I do agree that it would be useful, and probably for more things than just textures.

There are full and easy-to-follow tutorials on image compositing (and alpha channels) in the Photoshop manual that came with your boxed copy of Photoshop.

    • I don't have a manual. Photoshop came with my computer (I bought it used), but there wasn't a manual to go with it.

    • If there are no available online tutorials, can anyone recommend a good book for learning how to use Photoshop effectively (other than the manual?)

    • Photoshop is a very powerful program capable of making almost anything you wish, but it also has a heavy learning curve. I still haven't been able to make much in the way of textures with it. The best I can do is throw a grey backround on and then divide it up into plates using black lines and little black dots for bolts. That usually doesn't end up looking very good when I paste it on the ship though.

    • Search for Sparky's tutorial somewhere on this forum. It's pretty good and I noticed a marked improvement in the quality of my textures.

why, look! there it is. 🙂

I'm going to add more to it once all my APs and stuff are over - so around the end of May I'll put more little texuring tutorials in that thread

    • Captain Philips: That is much farther than I have been able to get stumbling blindly around in the program. About the only thing I can get Photoshop to do is blur stuff and save pictures as other formats.

Sparky: Thanks for the link. I appreciate the effort you put forth to help the community here. Unfortunately, that tutorial doesn't help me much because A. I don't know how to use Photoshop to do that and B. the 3D programs that I own don't texture that way, but use shaders (Mechanisto) or materials (Bryce3) instead.

    • hm, if you can't use photoshop to make the textures, why are you asking how to do it?

    • Sure you can use Photoshop to make textures for those programs. You just do it differently than you would for Lightwave. The problem is, I can't composite images with Photoshop, let alone do more complicated things. That is why I would find a tutorial of some sort helpful.

    • ah, so what do you want? I'm pretty good w/ photoshop, maybe I can help.
