I heard it is possible to convert an EVO plug to an EVN plug using EVONE. Anyone who knows how I can do this please help.
------------------
I believe that it has been done already.
(edit) Oops, I misunderstood, I thought you meant the game being ported from EVO to EVN (/edit)
I think I remember reading a post somewhere that a program was able to translate it to EVN, but don't remember where. Try making a search for it.

I think the program's called PortAuthority. It might be on the addon files page.

PortAuthority has yet to be released to the public, so it isn't on the add-ons page. EVONE includes something called 'Space Port," which does the same thing -- I haven't tried either program myself, though. Last I heard, both portAuthority and Space Port are imperfect -- they leave errors in the files that you have to clean up 'by hand" by checking your work with NovaTools, EVONE itself, or another editor. Still, they would probably save you some work if you want to port a plug....
EDIT: Martin Turner has listed some of the problems with PortAuthority & EVONE/SpacePort in the EV Dev FAQ (the "A" link in my sig), under "What are the differences between developing for EVO and Nova?"

Fact is, translating a plug from EVO to EVN gives big issues that can not be dealt with by an automatic translator - just see, mca062, our topics on trying to improve the EVO port to the Nova engine.

Very true, SpacePort is, and always will be, imperfect. However, I designed it so that it also outputs a pretty detailed log, outlining exactly what you have to do to complete the transition. After converting EV, EVO, and FH, it only took about 5 minutes to complete all the changes.
I think I had covered a large portion of the thinks mentioned in that FAQ, however, the vast majority of it was directly converted. I concentrated on getting the game to be played, not on getting it to be absolutely perfect. However, if you'd all like me to update SpacePort to incorporate as many of these changes, I may very well do that.
You can access it by going to "Tools: Convert to EVN" in the menu bar, or whatever it is. As far as I know, Port Authority has not been released to the public.

Yes, please! If you haven't done so already (heck, you may have even posted... I just don't remember), you should look through some of the recent threads on EVO port bugs -- some interesting issues have been found recently, and since they were well-hidden, you may have missed them just as Dr. Sutherland apparently did.

Okay, I read through all the EVO topics on the first three pages, the ones linked from your website, and the changes listed in the FAQ. Unfortunately, most of the topics (barring the difference topics) held very little useful information, for my application, at least. I'm afraid my application will not help to correct the bugs that exist in the official ports, as they were done with Port Authority, but it could certainly help to convert Martin Turner's FH, or some other TC, so I'll continue to work on it.
If the FAQ's listing is still up-to-date, and no other problems are found, that is all well and good, but if anyone finds anything else changed, do not hesitate to email me the change.
Additionally, to tell the truth, I spent most of my time actively working with the EV converter, and really only did the EVO files by how it should work in theory. This is mainly because EVO has so much larger of a universe, and it was simply not possible to check every last thing. However, I seem to have gotten most of it right.
Of course, the best way to make a converter perfect is to find a still-active developer's EVO TC, preferably not too large, and convert that to Nova, and have everyone check over the data files, and find the differences. It was pretty tough doing this with the EV/EVO ports, as Ambrosia was working simultaneously while I did mine, so I couldn't find any really dedicated beta testers. I'll post a new topic on this idea.

You alread saw the topics in the EVO board, good.
(url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/ubb/postdisplay.cgi?forum=Forum9&topic;=005177")shield recharge differences(/url) (not much an automatic translator can do except apply the documented formula for ships, but at least put a warning when translating so that shield enhancers and generators are rebalanced by hand).
(url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/webboard/Forum9/HTML/005145.html#")incorrect IDs in the compgovt field of the mïsn resource(/url), a problem of port authority obviously, but you should pay attention to it, and see my post at the bottom: there should be a warning telling the user to manually put missions to non-transient spöbs, or have random missions no longer go there, or make the 2 identical spöbs put basically for system-swapping needs only one and solve the problem. Once again it won't be automatic. Man your converter is turning into a reminding machine of what the porter should pay attention to.
(url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/webboard/Forum9/HTML/005147.html#")news come from oöps, and goes to crön(/url), the problem is for one-time news you need to introduce a new ncb, so either make sure it isn't used basically (<1000 is fine since there was only less in EVO) and that two different news you convert to cröns do not use the same one, i.e. do not always use b1000...
There are others, but I don't remember them all...
------------------
The (url="http://"https://secure.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/store/hazel.cgi?action=serve&item;=breakdown.html&BREAKDOWN;_SKUID=1480")Ambrosia Mac CD(/url) with other registrations - 5$. Paying for (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/evn/")EV Nova(/url) as it's such a great game - 30$.

Okay, obviously there isn't much I can do about the two former, but with the latter, are you positive news strings do not work with oopses? It shouldn't be hard to convert them to crons, regardless. EV and EVO don't use crons, so there will be no conflicts.

Excellent, I've got most of those covered. And with the project I'm starting on making the converter perfect, most everything should be covered.

I was wondering if SpacePirate can have your permission to port your Empire
Plugs into EVN Plugs to smooth out the SpacePort Application?
Sure, if you like. All seven of my EV plug-ins and each of their most
recent updates can be found at my homepage. As for "Heart Of Darkness", I
believe that is being ported to NOVA by MacDevil though he may have dropped
the project as I have not heard from him in several months. The original
"Empire" was recently updated to EVO and should be available for download
from Ambrosia's EVO site.
And what have you been working on for Nova?
At the moment, nothing. I was going to try a few ports of my own EV plugs
but my computer has troubles running EVONE so I abandoned the project.
Eventually I will begin work on either "Metal Empire" or "Fearful Symmetry"
but at the moment my time is limited.
Thank you for your interest in my work.
Kindest Regards,
Tim
