You weren't at all. I only mentioned that due to my post regarding the configuration of windows machines. I just wanted to pre-empt over-zealous users of either platform, not caution anyone who may have been coming close to the line.

And I use both platforms every day as well. I use several pcs at work, and my personal computer at home is a mac.

    • I just had the same problem this morning with my saved game. I can shed a little more light on it, too. If you are not running PoG in full-screen mode, you can actually read the dialog that pops up. It says "Impossible to load this saved game." It happens when trying to load the file from within the game, and when starting PoG by clicking on the saved game file.

I am running a 400 MHz iMac with OS X 10.1.5 and PoG version 1.0.2 with no plug-ins.

(If the dialog outline pops up in full-screen mode, you need not force quit or reboot. Just hit return.)

By any chance did you load a game file that had been saved while running a plug-in without that plug-in loaded?

I've had similar instances where I will run a plug-in and save the game, then later I will be running without that plug-in and attempt to load the saved game and not be able to(depending on certain conditions such as items the character has in possession).

Nope. No plug-ins at all. I've only recently started playing PoG and want to do it first without any of the plug-ins. Unfortunately, I am one of those who just saved each time over the old file.

My guess is that the save file got scrogged somehow. The only thing I can think of that was unusual when I tried opening the file the first time it failed was that I had Classic Mode running on my Mac, but I've seen posts of PC users with similar problems, so I doubt that is the source.

My only thought is report it.

Send an email to help@ambrosiasw.com. Please include an informative subject heading on your emails(ie. PoG bug - saved game file won't load). Include your name, OS, memory allocated to PoG, machine chip and speed, PoG version, which plug-ins are loaded if any, and a synopsis of what happened. Include anything you think might aid them in tracking the bug down. If the bug is reproduceable please copy a saved game and leave it around in case they would like to look at it(also mention that this bug is reproduceable).

      Good luck.

    • This is a bit of a long shot, but I've noticed as I have started over that my saved game file keeps getting bigger. No surprise there, I've got more stuff, have more recorded in my journal, but is it possible that these game files that can't be opened are too large?

My current game which is almost up to the point where my other one bombed is at about 16 KB, but the one that won't open is at 40 KB. Do other people have larger saved game files?

I know that with Microsoft Word if you continue to save the file with the same name over and over again, the file grows in size each time. Then if you save it to a new file, it gets trimmed down again. Could there be some sort of leakage in the PoG file that makes it grow too large?

(This is kind of the Hail Mary at the end of a football game before I give up trying to figure this out.)

    • I just did some checking in my files. Level 1 conjurer = 8k. Level 28 PoG standard w/o Trinity = 44k. The fact that you are up to 40k should not keep the game from working. I'm not helping your problem, I know, but just giving some input data. Hope you can solve.

Find those areas you missed the first time around. You'll want to explore those hidden areas now made accessible with Spells Expander.

    • I've got a saved game file that is 645k in size. 🙂

So no, size isn't the issue.

    • This is the exact problem I am facing. I am running the system. I am on an iBook with 500 mhz and am running 10.1.5. This is very frustrating. I have no plug-ins running, just the full downloaded game which I have registered, obviously, and the update. I have sent an email to AmbrosiaSW but have not received word on the problem, has anything come up since this was last discussed??

      Shrlckhlms...

    • First, grave digging a topic is bad. Don't do it.

Second, I did not realize that other people were having this problem or I would have told everyone the solution sooner. The problem seems to occur when you had a plugin activated on a file, then deactivated it and loaded the file. You then get the dialog box lines. Well, if it's a dialog box, then it has to have a pulsating blue button (or an outlined button if you are on OS 9 or Windows). How do you get past the pulsating blue button with the keyboard? You press return. So pres return a few times and then you can access the character.

BTW: iMac G3 600mhz, running Mac OS 10.2.6 if it helps any.

    • It tells me that it is impossible to load this file. I am sorry about bringing up an old problem, I just started playing this. When I hit return it just closes the box and I can load again but the impossible to load this file just comes up again. It will not let me load it at all.. I am running OS 10.1.5 and I had no plug-ins running that I know of. Just the update. Is there anyway around this, thanks again...
