I have been using this character for ever . I just was heading back to get knightd and was killed. Now when I try to load this wierd outline of a dialogue box appears
and nothing happens WHY. I have not bakced my file (silliness i know)
I s there something that can be done other than starting over (I can not bear the thought) SOMEONE HELP ME

Hi, to further help you, we'll need a bit more info. For instance, what kind of computer, OS, and if you have the latest PoG update, which can be found on the update page. if all else fails, I'd be glad to try to load your game on my machine to see if it's a problem with the file or not.

I have an EMac i am using OS X 10.1.0.4 and I do have the latest Update.
I have the trinity, spells expander, gold and regenerate plugins activated titan is there but i dont use it. Hopefully this might help

Ummmmm..... The latest version of OS X is 10.1.5 (well...not counting the 10.2 series). Try downloading the update and see if it helps. Also, as Dampeoples already offered, I am willing to take a look as well. If you'd like, you can send the file to Cha0s@evula.org.

Hi, well I encountered the same problem, just as I found the flag I need for the soldiers moral in high garendall. Damn, I cannot start the saved game as well :frown:, tried another one, but that doesn't start as well. I run mac os 10.2.3 on my G4. When I started today, there wasn't any problem with loading. Now I wonder if you already found a solution for this topic?

Thats odd.
Try rebooting your computer, creating a new character, saving it, then loading your old character(don't save over the old one!).

This used to happen in OS 10-10.1.5 when a plug-in that the character was saved with, wasn't loaded. This may be your problem, or it may be that you can't understand a word of this two-sentence reply.

hmmm.. I didn't download any extra plugins yet, except for the full game and the update. So I dont know which other plugins I should have loaded as well. I also tried first starting the game, and when it was fully started then opening the saved game.
I'm very glad I still had another saved game, so I played it again from there. With that game I'm not yet at level 22, but enclosing , I did save over the other games, each time trying again if the saved game would work (I have two saved game options for that). So that still works, I'm glad. But when it got stuck, I could only hear plings and had to restart the computer (ok, this sounds silly, I know ). So that's why I did eventually did save over the old ones. If it gets stuck next time I'll try your option Stark and let you know here if it works :).

Another thing, the latest OS is 10.2.4 (you always seem to be a step behind ;)). Always stay up to date.

I've heard a number of reports that 10.2.4 has caused problems for some users... I plan to stick with 10.2.3 for a while longer myself.

10.2.3 was living hell for both of my computers... I snapped up 10.2.4 as soon as it came out, and my motherboard hasn't exploded yet. I've noticed increased performance in some of my fancier games, too.

I intend to stay with 8.6(possibly 9.0.4 if I can find a copy) until Apple gets OS X to be rock-stable and then stops screwing with it and moves on to XI or whatever else is next. Once they move on I'll consider upgrading.
But I hate works in progress. Heh.

Ugh. I had a low-mid level conjurer (just got my first level-2 spell) and the same thing has happened. It died, and PoG "unexpectedly quit". I tried opening the character "directly" (drag, drop onto PoG icon), and tried starting another character (worked) and then opening the conjurer (crash).
Running 10.2.4, with 384MB of RAM, on a 500MHz G4 TiBook.
(BTW, Stark, this OS is pretty rock-solid. We haven't been able to crash it yet on either this machine or the dual G4/500. And we've tried.)

The point is that the app can crash "gracefully" (and that phrase amuses the me no end) -- without affecting the OS one little bit.
Windoze is getting better at handling crashes, but I still had to reboot it when Netscape crashed the system earlier today. I've never had to reboot my OS X machine because of a program crash.

Yeah, in all seriousness, it mostly goes with how the box is configured. Mac OS's seem to be fairly stable out of the box, but tinkering with them many times is like pulling teeth(they are made to be idiot-proof; which mean fiddling is difficult, heh). Windows on the other hand is fairly unstable out of the box, but is meant to be endlessly fiddled with. A well maintained windows box can be fairly stable; mine right now runs just fine with the only reboots necessary is when I install new software/updates or when my power strip dies suddenly(woops!).
Btw, this will not turn into a platform war. Violaters will be slapped.
