    • Govt require bits question

I am pondering a somewhat closed government, that doesnt like people landing except on its outermost systems (where the player can negotiate to get an appropriate permit to land in the inner systems).
I am thinking this could be easilly done with govt require field (this also leaves open some other possibilities), and two versions of the same government, one for the border, and one for the inner systems. My worry is with legal ratings. How will they end up working out? I dont want to have a mission to, say, drop a BFNB on thier capitol city, and have thier border planets still like me. If i put them in the same class and ally them, will they behave sanely in this mannar?

    • I'm pretty sure that the CompGovt and CompReward of a misn affect every system of a given government, so you could have a silent mission that changes the status with the border government, using the original mission to drop the BFNB to change the status with the inner government.

    • You don't have to worry about it, Az. Make the two governments, and make them allies. Ratings are linked with allies- if you rating with one government drops, your rating with all it's allies drops by an equal amount.

      Coolness.
Obviously this isnt recursive, or everytime you angered the Feds in EVN:Nova you would anger UN shipping and in turn anger the aurorans and polaris.....
Does this mean that invisible govts with different alliances could be used to get complicated legal status responces?

    • That's what I use them for.

The way I think it works is that all the governments that are allied behave like one big uber-gov. Your rating with this uber-government is the same with each government. The thresholds and penalties are different though. For instance, you kill a ship of gov 1 which gives you 5 badness points with the ubergov. You turn around and kill a ship of gov 2, but they don't mind as much, and only give you 1 badness point, with them and the whole ubergov.

I use invisible governments alot when I need to be selective. For instance, most of my governments have all four classes used, and all of them include class 0. Well, the random select "this government and classmates" wouldn't work so well with any of those governments, right? So, you make another government with only the class you need. Of course, you probably didn't need this explained, Az, but other people might find it useful. 🙂
