      Hmm. First topic in a while.

      I'm just wondering what kind of intro people like. Text? Screens? Movie? All three? Text and screens? Text and movie? Screens and movie?

      On a slightly different note...

      Currently, I'm thinking of this for my project:

      • Intro screens display backstory

      • Movie (played before text) plays sound

      • Text displays you getting into your ship or other similar things

      What do you think of this setup?

      That gets to be a lot. I think I would stick to just the first two and cut out the third. Maybe condense the third text screen with the first intro screen then use the movie to create the atmosphere and current situation.

      With all the "text editing" I seem to talking about today everyone probably thinks I'm against reading 😛

      Hmm. Maybe. I might cut the movie as that would be a good deal of work.

      Does anybody know when the ncb string in the chär resource is executed?

      Hmmm...A movie would be fun, except:
      a) If you made one, it would have to be realyl kick ass, otherwise you screw up the entire intro.
      You don´t want people thinking right off the bat¨"shabby", you know?
      b)it would take a much longer time to load

      Simple screens work fine, like EVN´s.

      As leader (and only member) of the Modem Users Association Against the Use of Movies in Downloadable Software (MUAAUMDS), if you make a movie, make it not heavy; if it is a TC modem people are prepared to pay the time needed to download a large plug but do not make the situation worse by adding a big movie.

      My experience dictates that playing sound as you plan to do does not work as you think- if you have a movie, even only an audio file, the text will not display until (before/after, depending on what you have set) the text is displayed. However, I do not recall the resource exactly, but at least in 1.0.3 (when I was writing SpacePort), I found that the EV "Transition" sound resource was still played. I don't recall exactly what resource, but you could easily find it out. It will play right after you first click "Enter Pilot". Or, you could get a similar effect with clever use of Pxxx commands.

      Aside from that, it is a good setup, similar to what I had been planning myself. I also plan on using a mission briefing, if the player is cast directly into the heat of battle.
