    • Default planet landscapes?

I'm hard at work on a TC for Nova (which I might be asking for some assistence with at some point in the future....we'll see), and something struck me as odd.

The CustPICT resource. I was looking through the Nova data files, and noticed that some planets have -1 in that field---and yet, they have a landscape. How does that work, exactly? Is there a particular PICT tied automatically to the planet's spďn?

Also, when entering PICTs to be used as landscapes, is there a particular range of ID #s I should be using? So far, I've just given the landscapes the same IDs as their associated spöbs.

    • Hey! You're back! Weren't you the one who was working on that Firefly-based TC? Or do I have the wrong person?

Well, according to the resources I have at my disposal...

less than 128 = No custom landscape (in the CustPicID field for spob resources, which defines the landscape for stellar objects).

However, I wasn't able to find an area that defined what a standard landscape was defined as. Perhaps the pict with the same ID as the spob? The pict that is used for spob 128?

It also doesn't seem as if there are any resource range problems, as long as you use 128 and above.

    • Every spin for a planets/station has a corrresponding landscape starting at 10000. So spin ID 1000 would have a landscape pic of 10000, spin 1001 has landscape 10001, etc.

Good luck with the TC! 🙂

    • Yes, that's me. I kind of stalled on the Firefly mod for a while, but about a week ago, I asked the folks over at TrekBBS (where Firefly is really starting to gather a following) to come up with and provide planet descriptions for their own made-up planets (since the show didn't give us nearly enough planets for a good game).

Since then, the number of spobs with descs that I've got has tripled, and I'm well on my way to having a decent galaxy map designed.

Graphics will still be a problem....any EVN graphics experts who happen to like Firefly , speak up! I could use your expertise. Any other EVN graphics experts, go buy the DVDs right now! 🙂

Thanks for the info. It doesn't really answer my question, but then, I was planning on giving every world a custom PICT anyway.

    • For custom ones, we usually set it to 11000+ID#-128 (11000 + Idx#).

    • It is all done in the spob's "graphic" field. Setting a value of 1000 here would use the first planet spin (1000, iirc), the first planet picture (10000, iirc), and the first entry in the "planet types" string.

    • The planet types STR#, Az. Damn, I'm not at MY comp, can't tell you which it is. But it's the string that says what to display in the Planet Communication dialog (class M planet, etc).

AAAAH! I always though that those strings were pulled from the name of the spin resource!
