Examine how ATMOS did the degrading carbon fiber - even though you can buy two, when one of them degrades, the other does too.
And DONT put 0 in duration, post holdoff and pre holdoff. Stick a 1 in somewhere. A zero in all three of those fields at once is not supported, and is known to cause atleast one problem (where the OnEnd is executed twice).

As for the giving of escort idea, you coould have a bit set

1. The mission that you want the player to go on (with objectives, etc.)

2. Another mission (perhaps titled "Escort service") which sets the ships as your escorts. That would mean that you could keep them for an indefinite period of time after the mission, should you choose.

Actually, study much the stock scenario. Long ago with EV I did not have the Bible for complicated reasons, but I had the templates so I learned much of plug editing simply by watching the data file and study it, especially the interaction between the ressources. However I lacked some important things like the meaning of the flags so you need to have the Bible as a reference. Much things are done in the stock scenario, and you can more easily reproduce them by seeing how it's done rather than reading the technical way to do it; however some engine features are not being used and now if we want to use them it's much more challenging as we're in not-that-charted territory, but you'll see it later.
Oh, and in related matters, newb at plugs, you may want to change your username now, because having you some years later still named "newb@plug-ins" would be odd...
