    • Wouldn't it be great if...


      Someone made a plugin that made a series of crons that made certain more high-tech weapons and outfits come out for purchase at different places.

      I am making this very vauge. An example would be when it becomes 10/3/78 N.C. game-time, a new type of blaster is invented and put on the market. Another example would be the in 5/24/79 N.C. when an early beta Gli-Tech multi-jump comes into the market. It would make the game hella interesting, where you are in the 80's and are waiting for the next "killer" version of the tri-400mm railgun.

      Just suggesting some ideas that would make the game a LOT more interesting.

      Good question. If you're on Windows, don't try to pull the ol' "I'm a Windows user and can't make plug-ins". Get EVNEW. I have a link in my signature, as do UE R&D;, Azratax2 (sp?), and Aprosenf (possibly among others).

      If you're on a Mac, go download a damn editor. There are at least four of them. ResEdit without NT, RE with NovaTools, MissionComputer, EVONE. I believe that's it.

      If you don't know how to do crons, they aren't that hard. Study the Bible and you'll be up and running in no time!

    • As a matter of fact, I was planning something like that for my plug-in project (not Fatal Alliance). I still need to test the concept, though. It seems as if using it in conjunction with plot events (e.g. after a random period after you make a discovery, product X comes onto the market) would be the most effective method.

    • The problem is that I would have to re-outfit tons of fleets and dudes and ships in order for it to work... Though I could make it an old blackmarket thing in planets like Tichel, Rebel II and I, the station in Scheall, and that one station where you can get illigal weapons. I might be able to pull it off.

      BTW HOW CAN YOU NOT GET crons! I FOUND THEM AS THE SIMPLEST FIELD WHEN I WAS A noob!

    • The difficulty really isn't that hard, as long as you aren't producing some revolutionary new outfit. You can have dudes containing ships equipped with the new outfit(s) set only to appear after a NCB string has been set, and make the cron enabling the technology/the actual appearance of the outfit set that particular NCB string. After all, you can't expect every single ship to be equipped with the new device, even if it's important. In EVO, it was claimed that the Nebular Penetration Device would take 10 years to become common equipment with traders and the military.

    • Had to pop in with a plug for SS-

      This is being done. The ships will change and get updated throughout the storyline, some ships will fade away, and some new ones will be introduced.

    • Also there are refit missions in SFA which allows for outdated ships to go away.

    • The Polaris storyline already does this, I believe.

      In case anyone cares, my TC has a large number of cröns to do this as well.

      In EVO, they also said that in a few months, the UE Cruiser would be available. It's interesting that I went to the nearest shipyard A.S.A.P. (2 jumps away times jump time in UE Carrier (3 days) + 1 extra day = 7 days = one week) and it was there. Couldn't afford it, but it was there.

      In all honesty, you really should do it yourself. Noone has an excuse anymore for not being able to make plug-ins (unless you have such an old and ****ty machine it can't run any editors).

      Although it hadn't come to mind until now. It sounds intriguing. I may or may not find a way to implement it into TA. We'll see.

      I might try impementing it in my plugin that I'm working on right now. Well...not right now as SAT IIs are this weekend 😛

      The idea for new technologies has already been explored, and is what I'm working on in this plugin, but your idea may give a new depth to the game that I'm looking for. It however gets nasty after you have to edit most systems for new types of ships to fight with new weapons (not: NEW weapons, not existing ones), besides balancing those new ship variants. Meh...

      In EVO there wasn't any way to do that, neither cröning a new tech to be available at some point in the game without you being involved, nor having the possibility to even only delay the availability of a new tech, since cröns didn't even exist. It's something really powerful of the EVN engine (as are many other things).
