After accidently corrupting every single pilot file with the G348 bit, I thought it would be simple just to write a plug clearing the bit. Unfortunatly, the bit sets itself time after time... is there a way to get around this, or are all my pilots eternally screwed?

G348 is not a bit. It is an expression that grants an outfit of ID 348. Outfit number 348 happens to be a bomb. So what you need is a plug that has in one of its field's (OnAccept, OnAbort, OnComplete) D348, which will delete outfit number 348, removing it from your pilots.

I wrote a plug that had On Completion field as !G348. I've read the bible over and over and I can't believe I forgot the Gxxx and Dxxx logic... <droops tail and walks away>,

That wasn't that bad. G348 sure as hell looks like a bit to the untrained eye, and your solution would have been correct in that eventuality.
