    • Wormholes vs. Hypergates

I'm trying to make a series of systems that each have two wormholes in them, one leading in and one leading out. The system series is pretty much in a straight line, and the only way in and out of each system is through the wormholes.

I'd like to make it so that the wormholes will take you there automatically, without any randomness. And since each one leads to only one other system, it seems kinda dumb to go to the hypergate screen, select your one possible route, and then click ok.

Is it possible to do this? Any help would be appreciated.

    • Nope, sorry. Wormholes take you to any other wormhole at random. Also, if you put more than one wormhole in a system, it's entirely possible that Nova will throw a shoe; it was never meant to handle more than one.

      all the best,

Um... That's only true if you set it up like most (but not all) of the wormholes in the default scenario. As long as you fill in one or more of the destination links for the wormhole, it will limit where you can come out. If you only put in one destination, it will always take you to the same place (like the "Link" wormhole in the S7evyn system).

I think that issue was fixed in one of the early 1.0.x releases. I know it was for Hypergates and they should operate on a similar system. So I suggest you try it and see if it works.

Actually, that was fixed quite recently, IIRC.

    • What do you mean, "link" it? Does this involve mission scripting, or normal ResEdit stuff?

Normal ResEdit stuff. Just open the wormhole spöb resource and enter the IDs of the wormholes you want to connect to in the Hyperlinks section. I haven't had any trouble with multiple wormholes in the one system.

    • This is all quite possible and easily doable (gratuitous plug) SS uses it for the hyperspace systems (/gratuitous plug). Just make sure the entry wormhole has the Spob ID of the exit wormhole in one of it's HyperLinks fields (and nothing else but -1 in all the rest) and vice versa, and you can set up a whole system of distinct wormholes.

The multiple wormhole/hypergate issue was fixed in the 1.0.4 release, FYI.

    • Actually, I got most of this to work perfectly in what I'm pretty sure is version 1.0.1

I now have only one problem: I want this to work with both hypergates and wormholes (since most of my hypergates only lead to one other place, just like the wormholes). If I just call the hypergate a wormhole, it works pretty well... except that it is constantly opening and closing so fast that it gives me a siezure. Anyone know how to stop that?

I know for a fact that multiple hypergates in a system will not work properly on 1.0.1.

In your Hypergate spöbs you need to set the "Cust. PICT" field to 37. This indicates the frame at which the repeating portion of the graphic starts (frame 37 is where the standard HG graphic repeats).

    • Well, my EV Folder says 1.0.1. I have multiple wormholes in a system. (I've tried it out so that they lead to either each other or to wormholes/hypergates in other systems). It worked fine. Maybe my version number is wrong. Whatever. Or I've just gotten lucky. Or something.

You can't with a wormhole- it has no inactive/openning/looping cycle like a hypergate, unfortunately. It just loops continually like any other animated spob. The customPic field Slagblah mentioned doesn't affect wormholes, unfortunately.

Don't trust the folder name. That means nothing. Do a "Get Info" on the Nova App and/or data files. That's the best way to verify what version you're running.
