Tech stuff first. I'm running an 800 MHz iBook with OS 10.2.6. Don't be afraid of it, by the way - it's not 10.2.5. And I've got the latest PoG.
I've had a pretty successful career in the game, although I've only had it a week. I killed the Cyclopses, got the eye, had visited just about every corner of the map, and the only guys that gave me trouble were anything tough as the Rock Monsters and the Super Zombies hanging out in that cave northwest of the Black Fairy Ruins. Oh, and the Stone Giants, but that goes without saying.
Anyway, I'm having a good time, acquired an Ogre's War Axe along the way, I'm sitting pretty, everyone's afraid of me. Until this morning, anyway. (Nice buildup monologue, huh?)
This morning, I went to play the game, and as my saved game is loading in, it freezes before it gets loaded and beeps. This now happens every time I try it.
I was annoyed, but not pissed - fortunately I do a periodic 2nd save. So I open that. Unfortunately, I saved the backup just after defeating the Cyclopses, and guess what! No-one even knows I beat them! I've got the Eye, but I don't have the Key, and when I go back, those schmucks in town act like nothing happened. And I know I need the key and the Mayor to send his boys out to join the others, so basically I'm screwed, gotta start again. Yesterday they cowered before me - now even those little geeks in the metal helmets can stomp me. I feel like such a wuss.
Anyway, anyone got any thoughts? Ideas on what's going on? Ideas on how to get that saved game to run right again?
