Ambrosia Garden Archive
    • Just uploaded a new patch that fixes a couple of bugs (one of which I introduced thinking I was patching something last time). The main archive is being updated as well so anyone who downloads while I'm asleep will get the right version. But of course the one submitted to Ambrosia is way out of date now. Again. Oh well, I'll get the rest of the outfit descriptions done and submit yet another file to them.

    • Maybe you should make it so that the new universe only becomes available after the Kontik mission, as well as the completion of any one of the six mission strings, so that it's as if it took time for the probe to send back a response.

    • I considered that, but I like the idea of being able to complete the strings with Classic ships. I suppose I could use a cron to make it available after a certain amount of time.

I suppose I also suggested it so that once the player has completed the default mission strings, there's suddenly more for him/her to do.

    • Found another glitch while starting that new pilot.
Well, a windows glitch, or one introduced my the conversion.

Already in there :^) The standard character starts you, as normal, in the EVN universe. There are 3 other characters to chose from which all start you in Levo in the EVC universe. There's the usual shuttle start, a clipper with a bit of money and a corvette with some money and a few kills
      /Quote

I, for one, could not chose one of these. I could just start with the shuttle at Levo and that was it. I could see there was supposed to be a menue there, but I could not get to it. I would not open.

    • What_is_the_matrix: they can still pursue the EVC story after the EVN scenario is complete. But this way they have the freedom to pursue it at the same time. And it leaves more freedom for mission writers if the EVN universe is still in conflict when the EVC one is avilable.

JT Sterling: it sounds like you're using an older version of the plugin. Try downloading a newer one and see if that works. If it doesn't, then it could be a Windows specific issue. If it is, I"ll see what I can do to resolve it, but my options will be rather more limited.

    • I got the same problem with the plugin, also on a PC. I can't select anything from the character menu, and I always start in levo with a EV classic shuttle.

    • Have you tried with the most recent version of the plugin? That problem existed on the Mac side a while ago, but I fixedi it. IT could just be you're using the old broken version.

    • Yeah, I tried that version.

I also found the EV classic ships were waaaay overpowered, so I decided to just play the classic mod on it's own.

    • Think of it as a challenge, fighting against them. To be fair though, they're no worse than Polaran ships and the low to mid level ships aren't too far off the EVN shield levels. Just fly faster really. It's the high level naval vessels that kick ass, especially if they have a big torpedo/missile load. Those things are lethal, even after I reduced their power levels.

They're more vulnerable to missile attacks than Nova ships though. Weak(non-existant originally) jamming and mediocre (again, pretty much non-existant originally) point defence. No long range guns either. Aurorans would do well against them. Or the Polaris.

Are your concerns more of the nature that you have trouble against them, that it's too easy for you to use Classic ships aginst Nova ships or in AI Classic vs. Nova battles, you can picture the Nova ships getting hammered?

    • It's been confirmed all over the board that WinNova doesn't handle chars properly. Just FYI 🙂

    • ok, everything is working great. i've tried the plug on version 1.0.3, 1.0.4, and 1.0.6

so far, no plugs i can seeon any of those versions.

    • Just hit a major stumbling block - I'd forgotten about the old 'high ID aux dudes don't work' problem. It appears that it's still in there and means I'll have to create a bunch of new invisible missions to recreate their functionality. By the time I'm finished, there's only going to be room for about 20 new missions, which realisticly means one short strong given that any decent mission set will probably require a few of those to be used instead of aux dudes. So much for a decent set of crossover missions, unless you wan't to replace existing ones. If the developers would fix this, I'd be very, very grateful.

Sometime tomorrow I'll hopefully get those sorted out and release a new version of the plug, along with all the changes I made today, which include more ship variants, outfit descriptions, adjusting map colours, finally getting my missions to work right (I think) and a lot of other smaller tweaks and changes. Might get round to adding reinforcement fleets to systems while I'm at it. The range of changes and addition of a few more graphics means that I'll just re-release the plug rather than issing a patch. I'll even submit this one to Ambrosia as well.

    • Found still another glitch.
Well, might not be, after all, since I did not use a new pilot. Haven't tried that, because I did not have the time to get a good enough combat rating on a new one.

      Well, I tried dominating.
No resistance at all. They give in immediately. Currently I dominate all of Confed space. Not one fight.

      Sterling

      ------------------

    • Hmm, odd, I tried dominating a planet a while ago and they attacked my immediately. Which one did you try? Have you used any other plugs with that pilot that could have had a spob with the same ID? I'll try dominating it myself once I hear back.

    • The problem might be the not new pilot.
I tried at Darfen, first I couldn't, because I was only "dangerous", once I hit "deadly", I tried again, and they gave in. At that point I thought this was just because I had demanded tribute before, so I tried Northstar, they gave in as well. Then I went to Sol, and within seconds dominated the whole system.

Well, as I said, this might be due to the "old" pilot.

      Sterling

      ------------------

    • Just checked myself and it happens with old pilots for me as well. I have a theory as to why:
each pilot keeps track of the status of planetary defence fleets. When a pilot is created, it might make a note of the number of ships remaining in every defence fleet. If new spobs are later introduced, there will be no record of them having a defence fleet, so the pilot will assume that every ship has been destroyed and only a hail is required to dominate the spob.

Only a theory, but it would neatly explain why new pilots work fine, but old ones don't.

    • Just uploaded the latest modifications, including the aux dude work around (54 Classic missions modified) and addition of reinforcement fleets. Also made a couple of outfit changes so that if you have an IFF decoder/gravimetric sensor/auto-refueller/auto-eject/escape pod from EVN, it won't show up as purchasable in EVC and vice-versa. I've split the downloads into data and graphics so that there's less to download if I make a lot of changes to just one of them. Everything's been moved to a separate folder on my site as well - (url="http://"http://homepage.mac.com/jonathanboyd/evn/index.html")here(/url).

    • Made several updates to the plug today, fixing various problems, changing the storage model for fighters, number of certain outfits you can buy, weapon tweaks, addition of more ship variants, addition of a couple of new ships and dozens of other small issues. Once I check out feedback's problem to see if it's a plug issue, I might chuck in a few wormholes and consider another short crossover mission string.

    • Just uploaded a mission fix. A lot of missions were asking for any inhabited planet, so ones that should have stayed in Classic were spreading into Nova. Resulted in some very silly cargo runs in some cases. Found a few other problems with missions asking for a non-existant government ID, which have now been fixed. Hopefully. Spread the Classic systems out a bit as well so that the map borders would render better and tweaked the weapon levels. Again. Updates in the usual place. I think I'm almost at the point where I can say 'the plug works'.
