    • Luck, welcome to the boards... uh, good luck here.

I think this has already been impied, but the defense platforms could just be stellar objects, and landing on them would have good possibilities for "Land here and take over the jump point" missions. Also, since they were basically planets, you could decide which weapons actually damage them. Yah.

I think it was Kartanik who said wormholes are just random as to where they take you? They aren't, but if they're set to -1 then they are random, otherwise they take you to a specified other wormhole. But, I think i'd prefer it if they were hypergates.

Man, I hope you get this underway, it'd be interesting.

quite right. the default Nova data comes with all the worms holes having -1, except for the worm hole Link of course. but yes, you could esily make them non random.

stupid spelling. i'm to tired to check my own spelling right now. maybe in a few hours.

      just woke up.

    • Some advice for all you plug-in makers who don't have enough time:

      1. Go to sea on a ship.
      2. Run smack into tropical strom Erica.
      3. Thank God for Dramamine.
      4. Work on your plug-in to keep from going out of your mind with boredom.

Yeesh. 11 days at sea and only 2 actual work days due to weather equals a lot of free time.

I did two cool EVN things while I was out at sea.

First, I made a 81 syst 500 spob universe connected with wormholes. That means there are no hyperjump connections, only wormholes. It's not that bad to make if you are organized and have lots of time, but there are some disadvantages. You can't use the auto-random-mission generation capability of Nova, where it picks a mission destination within X jumps of the start (as there are no jumps). You also can't use the map outf, as that also works off of jump points. However, the game play is very much more exploration-based than normal EVN. For some TCs that could be a major plus. So, I've got a spare universe lying about if anyone wants one...

Second, I made a clockwork solar system that's pretty neat. By putting several copies of the planets in each orbit, and controlling which one is visible with crons, I made the map seem to move the planet around the orbit as in-game time goes by. I only did the 4 inner planets, as how much does Uranus really move during any one game (heh)? Anyway, one could go even more crazy with this idea and have the hyperspace connections change based on the configuration of the planets, to simulate the whole go-to-Jupiter-by-way-of-Solar-slingshot thing. I remember reading a couple messages about simulating a single star system in greater detail, so maybe there is some use for this.

      Any thoughts?

      Peace,
      Luck

    • well now I know why nobody answered some of these very same questions in my older post
      Is it possible to... (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum9/HTML/004512.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS...TML/004512.html(/url)

I had asked many other questions first but then in a reply asked (since I was thinking of the wormholes only connecting to a single other worm hole as a way to pretend to travel dirctly between earth and mars; each planet has two wormholes at the edge of the systems so you have to go all the way to the edge of the system and pass over a beacon (WH) leading you to another planet and on the opposite end of the system another WH leads only to the next planet in the chain.) if it was possible to eliminate the Jkey jumps. It's now answered, as well as the ability to actually use WH like this no longer being just an assumption on my part. If you have a chance check out my thread it's got other thought on different ideas too.

P.S. Luck, I also thought of the orbiting planets idea too, but it's a systems gobbler and I'm still not sure if I want to include other star systems later in first contact situations.
As far as the ionisations you might be able to make special npcs carry weapons that do mostly this to your ship so you can hold off a major battle with them until later when you make a protective outfit against the weapon (not sure it's possible). The escourt idea might not work but you could try to make an oufit that makes a weapon like a mine or something that might deploy almost exactly ontop of you that ionises the ship only and link it to your bit that allows yourship to fire your superlaser (very much like the B5 Excalibur series had a ship that lost power to all systems when fireing three beams that coalessed (spelling?) at the ships front and became a one shot superweapon).
