Try reinstalling everything from scratch. Make absolutely sure that you read the NovaTools install instructions carefully and do exactly as it says. Many problems with NovaTools come just from installing it incorrectly.
Start ResEdit.
Quit ResEdit.
Start ResEdit.
Open ResEdit Preferences file in ResEdit.
Open NovaTools file in ResEdit.
Copy all resources in NovaTools file to ResEdit prefereces.
Quit ResEdit.

Also, make sure that ResEdit has enough memory allocated to it. About 5 megs should be good.

I've experienced a similar problem, but it's much more subtle and deadly: After opening a few weaps, ResEdit will freeze up without warning. If I'm running 9.2.2, this brings my entire computer down too. So every time I need to do lots of stuff with weaps, I have to periodically take "stability breaks" wherein I relaunch ResEdit.

You need a new version of the OS. I had the same problem until I installed 9.2, and the problem reappears when I restart in OS 8.2.

Doesnt anybody have any clue what causes this? The resources that define nova tools are right there for anyone to look at and modify if there is something wrong with them (which there must be if it the weap window crashes!). If i knew anything bout mac resedit programing, i would try to deal with it myself, but alas, I dont know anything bout how to work with those kinda resources. If one studied what they did, i have little doubt that one could find something different about the weap window setup and change it (and tell others how to change it). There is obviously something different about the weap window resources if so many people have problems with weaps and nothing else...

An Error Type 7 is a strange one. The only time I've ever seen one is when using emulated 68k processors (it's a type of error that shouldn't occur in a properly-built hardware Mac).
A Type 7 is a privilege violation error, and it has something to do with the 68k processor being placed in the wrong mode and not being allowed to execute an instruction... hence, it sounds like there is something wrong with the simulation of the processor in your emulator and there isn't much I can do to help you with that.

Download the templates on the add-ons page and put them in the file with the weap resource. Then click once on the weap you want to edit, go to resource in the menu and select "open using template." You wont be able to edit as well but it works.
