    • Well, 5 unlim is awesome, I like lw but maya just takes the cake, though I would love to play around with Pixar's stuff, unfortunately, I really don't know anyone who uses PRM or Artist Tools, so looks like that one will have to wait. Maybe I'll eventually get 'round to posting some of my Maya stuff.

How much is Maya? Where do you get it? What about LW? All I have to make ships in is Mechanisto 2.0  I use Bryce 3 for landscapes, but not for ships (the animation and getting rid of unwanted animation drives me crazy).

Maya is several thousand dollars, I'm not exactly certain of the price. You can see the Alias|Wavefront site at (url="http://"http://www.aliaswavefront.com/en/news/home.shtml")http://www.aliaswave...news/home.shtml(/url) .

Lightwave, I think, is $2600. I got it with an educational discount for only around $450. You can see the Newtek site at (url="http://"http://www.newtek.com/products/lightwave/index.php")http://www.newtek.co...twave/index.php(/url) .

    • Thousands...nevermind. No way I can afford that.

    • There are student versions available for most animation software at drasticly reduced prices, The version of maya that is worth getting is priced at approximately $6500 right now (i think, i may be off by 500 bucks or so). (url="http://"http://www.journeyed.com")www.journeyed.com(/url) can provide some good deals on such software if you are a student.

    • Actually, I've heard a weird rumour that Pandromeda (Mojoworld's creator) might buy Bryce...

I know I'm going off on a tangent of a tangent, but great username, Mazer!

Get strata3D... it's really, really wierd for a bit, but it can do a lot of stuff mechanisto can't. I switched from mechanisto earlier this year, and I'm fairly happy with where I'm going with it. After two years of work with mechanisto it was basically maxed out on what I could do with it, and that pissed me off a bit... the change is worth it.

And if you don't like it you can switch back with no damage to your wallet...

But it will be really wierd at first.

    • there is really no reason to be using bryce. vue d'esprit is far more stable, quick, feature-ladden, and costs less to boot. $200 and with great mac support unlike bryce. speaking of which, if anyone needs landing pics, i would be happy to help out on requests.
