Yep.

I recall the very first time I went to rescue the general I had my butt handed to me.

I recently went back there with a fairly inexperienced character with low skills and wimpy armor. I was all over that death knight.

I was reasonably pleased with my improving skills.

As RD previously mentioned, it all depends on your skills and equipment. The good thing about healing potions though is that you'll always be able to use them and need them. So don't worry about buying too many.
