I'm getting done with the EV sprites, but I still have quite a bit left. We should AIM chat to have some semblence of continuity. Email me at least. The email address and aim screen name that I have in my profile (and therefore can be found by clicking the email or aim buttons above my posts) are correct.

Yes, but just because a plugin is small, that doesn't make it crappy. I have released about 4 or 5 plugins to the Nova addons page (soon to be more 😉 ), and all of them are very small, but (in my opinion) add significantly to the game. I made 1 plugin (capships fix) that is very useful, but is probably less than 1kb.

Ahem. My name is Gav (I prefer it). Or Gaviiin, if you like to type alot or something.

Anyway, I suppose this child plug would be quite easy to do (no graphics skills needed, really). Keep me in check if you're serious about it.

Good thing I'm not a graphic designer. Technically, I'm an animator, but who's counting? I'm probably not going to get any work done for another half a week because I have a major final project due in my art class this Wednesday. After that, EV (and then EVN) will proceed at full speed.

    • I always wondered when someone was going to bring this subject up. I agree, that there are crappy plug-ins coming up. I also agree that some of these plug-ins are created out of ignorance, meaning that someone hasn't had alot of experience in making one (but someone has to start somewhere).

However, I also feel that those who create plug-ins using resources that are there, (i.e. someone uses a rebel cruiser to make a new kind of ship) do so because they are not blessed with Photoshop, Infini-D, and other KA programs like we are.

Now keep in mind that although some developers are "softwarely challenge" and that we shouldn't mouth off them really hard for making crappy plug-ins, they should be well informed as to where they can find softwares, programs that develpers can download for FREE.

Now another subject regarding this topic I wanted to bring up. I have this very very radical idea, but this is just OFF THE FLY. I suggest that we have a system where crappy plug-ins can be BLAMMED off the site. You know, people can have the power to vote off plug-ins because they are POS. This could help AmbrosiaSW save some bandwidth and space I believe.

Another way to save more space is that I think there should also be another system, where developers can actually replace a plug-in with newer versions, that way, you don't have a long list of many versions of the same plug-in.

Now I know this sounds like an overhaul to undertake, because you would also have to consider plug-ins from other games like Ares, Pop-Pop, Maelstrom and other such. I am LOOSELY basing this idea off from (url="http://"http://www.newgrounds.com")Newgrounds(/url), where they have a sophistocated voting system because they have over 1 million submissions of flash movies in their database, how many plug-ins does AmbrosiaSW have in total?

In conclusion, this whole thing I just said is a LOOSE idea, a way to clean up the addons page saving bandwidth and space to have things run efficiently, I am NOT suggesting to create an identical system that Newgrounds have.

So, do you think we should have a way to solve this problem?

    • I think there should be a system like I mentioned that allows developers to update submissions. I believe that it will make people on both sides happy. I've made plug-ins that had updates like v1.1. v1.2 etc. I would like to find a way to replace all of those if I can with v 1.3. This way it will save alot of bandwidth and not push out alot of other good plug-ins.

    • i'll write some perl scripts (c programs, if that's preferred) if someone can come up with a good way to do it. the one big problem i see is choosing who can replace which plug. my only decent thought on how to do this is the following:
each plug requires a username/password to be posted. in order to replace a plug, you log in, and the system displays a list of the plugs you've posted, from which you can choose the one(s) to replace (or remove).
i've got nothing to do at work tomorrow except screwing around with campaign of terror, so i'll see if i can get some sort of general framework up and running tomorrow

I suppose it could be integrated in some way with the webboard's user database, but that'd be hella hard...

I still think that it would be neat to have a link on each post to a page that listed and linked to all of the addons submitted by a member... 😄

I was kind of joking. As it now stands, only a moderator can actually post the file, all a member can do is submit it.

    • Or what would be really nice would be a search feature, so you don't have to dig through old plugs, also (if possible) moderators show delete old obsolete plugs that dont work with the new versions of Nova, or delete the old versions of the plugs and leave the latest version. my 2 cents

The way I figure it, is that technically, most of us do have accounts already at least for webboards. Perhaps our accounts can extend beyond to do the updatings.

Now you may ask what about those who don't have accounts but they submit plug-ins? Well think about it, of course there might be a number of repeats of plug ins with newer version that guests may submit, but at least the redundancies are alot less than what it is now. But you could encourage those to sign up and they will have the benefit to have the updating capabilities.

If those of you think that this is a good idea, I suggest you follow (url="http://"http://www.newgrounds.com")Newground's(/url) example. Though their system is very sophistocated and very complicated, it does not mean that you have to copy the exact same thing, just use only the system you think that they have that could benefit this idea we are having a discussion about.

I don't know exactly what you mean. Maybe you're off the topic, perhaps you can explain exactly by that.

I don't think everybody here is talking about the problem of finding a particular plug-in they want. I think they are talking about improving the addons page's efficiency by eliminating as many redundancy plug-ins and those that don't work at all.
