Question to all developers!

Just wondering, do any of you get payed to make plug-ins or parts of plug-ins for the EV Games? If so whats the Pay like? I'm just curious, im not trying to be nosey, so you don't have to answer that one if you don't want to. Also where do you get the spare time from? I take it most of you do various computer design stuff for a living, but how do you manage to squeeze it with your other jobs you have to do etc?

Sorry for all those questions, im just very curious.

No, plugins are free, remember?
As for spare time, well, I don't work 24 hours a day, nor do I work on weekends. (I count school as work, as it takes up most of the day.)

I dont get paid. Its highly unlikely that anyonegets paid for making parts of plug-ins since plugs are all (so far) freeware addons. It would be nice to get paid, and hell I would if I could, but it isnt practical.

I am a student so I do some work at nights after class and at weekends (when Im not at the pub). Managing time is quite hard for me as I have about 3 or 4 projects on the go (5 if you include my site which is an ongoing project :p)

I don't really see how that would work anyway. As far as I know, the only money made around here is for shareware apps. Most of my spare time is just plain old spare time. It's in smaller quantities lately, so I've been pushing off most of my projects for a while.

I make $6.75 an hour, but it's not for doing EV development work. Stupid college bookstore. Anyway, as everyone else said, doing EV plugin development work is mainly a hobby.

Pay would be great, but alas.... I do graphic design nine hours a day, and developing plugins is a nice release after a long day in the office. It's not mindless and I get to be creative in other ways that my work doesn't afford me.

Hehe, I also don't get paid to make things.

However, I might pay other people (friends I know well) to have them do some graphics for me. If I do that, it'd be more of a symbolic stipend. Maybe a dinner or something, for their trouble and bearing with all my demands on how the graphics should look like.

Of course, I won't be making money off the plug-in...

Sorry as the others said you probably won't see a cent for making plugins. You may get praise or critisiscm depending on the quality but thats about as close as you'll get to getting paid for making plugins. Dissapointing but true. Also I do not do any form of computer design for a living. I work at Games Workshop. It's a hobby store and I get $6 an hour.
I get all my work on my plugins done on weekends after cricket and some weekdays if I have time. I am currently struggling with system mapping so I'm going slow (In reality I don't really have a choice. SEVEN assignments! Can you believe that!)

BTW: In case you haven;t heard of it cricket is an old English game that is now played in about 60 countries with 11 Test Match playing nations and... awwww forget it I wouldn't say it's the most popular sport world wide. I like it because I'm good and Australia (my home country) are world champions :D)

No, I don't think so - if it is all your own work. If you recycle Ambrosia graphics or anything, then yes, it's illegal. Just using their software product to run your released plugin is no more illegal than charging for software that runs on the Mac OS.

Just to add to the consensus, I make no money either from making plugins or moderating this board.

Sure, plug-in makers do get paid. I can think of a fellow named Peter Cartwright who developed a really cool scenario and had it sold by ASW.. Also, a few boys from down under, "ATMOS" I believe they called themselves, just recently released a tremendous work that started as a plug-in for EVO..

So basically, it happens rarely, but you never know what might happen if you come out with a truly impressive, ground-breaking piece of work..

The most I got paid for EVOGod and The Docks (two separate releases) was a single cheque for US$5 : ) Must have been a devoted fan!!

I suppose you could say that plug in developers get paid, but not in cash, in that warm fuzzy feeling you get when you complete a mission string, and test it, and it works. But the flip side is the bug that will not die, when all you are missing is the F at the end of your flags field... grrrr.
