    • NovaTools: help me please!

I've searched like crazy, so don't try to tell me to search. My problem is, i don't understand how to get the thing i'm trying to edit into an undestandable format, i.e. not hex. If it IS supposed to be in hex, i don't see how it corresponds to the bible at all, as i can't see any of that in the hex. Someone told me that i needed templates, but the searches said you don't need templates when you have nova tools. I think i installed nova tools correctly, and no errors have come up. I just don't know how to get the thing in a format that I can tinker with while i know what im doing. Help would be greatly appreciated!

Check my post on the EVN board. Though you should probably use this thread if my advice didn't work or if you have any other problems with Novatools.
Do you get what I mean now when I said that EVONE and Mission Computer were better programs? 😉

    • I'm gonna start using this thread now instead of the other one. Ok. I am making my first plug(yay) and have two questions. A: how do I change the description for an outfit, and B: How do I make Nova recognize it as a plug? I saw B in a search that I did, but I can't remember what I was searching for.

    • To change a description, you'll need to edit the corresponding dësc resource. To make Nova see the file as a plug, put in the plugins folder(duh) and use resedit to change the file type to Npďf and the creator to Növä. Note, that everything involved with types and such is case sensitive and requires the umlats(¨) to work properly.

    • The file type and creator thing was what i was looking for. thanks.

    • Ok. I just hit another problem. For my outfit edit screen thing, it says Pict ID=6000. thats not the pict I want, but i dont see how to change it. Also, I still can't figure out how to link my description to the outfit. Help is appreciated.

    • I fixed the picture problem, but still can't get the graphic to work. I noticed theres some code or something at the end of most(or all) outfit dëscs. Is this what links the desc. to the outfit? If so, how do I know what code to use for the outfit I made?

      1. It is best if you post all your questions in the same post, instead of 100 separate posts. It actually keeps things clean here.

      2. Though I have not been following all your questions, there is a difference between skimming the Bible and reading through it.

      3. Open someone else's plugin, and see how things are done there. You can see how everything is associated with everything else.

PICT resources are connected automatically. You can't alter this; which means that the ID number has to be right. I'm trying to remeber what corresponds to what... I have this all written down at home so I never have to remember. Let's see... outfit pictures as well as ship picts are based on the INDEX ID not the resource ID (resource ID minus 128). I think for outfits you add 6000 to the index ID to get the correct PICT ID. For the shipyard, I believe you add 3000. Keep in mind that even if you're using the same graphic multiple times, you have to provide a graphic with a unique ID for each outfit.

      (edit)
      Let's give a quick example 🙂
The light blaster is listed as resource 128. So you subtract 128 which is it's index ID (this number is always visible if using NovaTools). Now just add 6000. So there you go. The graphic for the Light Blaster should be listed as resource 6000.
