By the way, While where on the subjuct. In Strata, can any one tell me how to add details like cutting grooves in to the shape or "drilling" wholes through a shape or simply slicing off a piece of a shape? These seem to me to be things that any 3d program worth it's salt should be able to do. Also about textures or making and using custom textures to be more specific. I was trying to make the rough shape for the Jupiter2 from the Lost In Space movie and then use a screen shot I took from the scene in the movie when they are flying through the planet and the ship turns sideways over the water(the only good overhead shot in the movie) to wrap around the ship but it looks like crap. ANy suggestions?

Ok, I assume you are using the free version. With it, there is only one way of doing this while with Pro, you can use boolean subtractions and such like. The only way you can do it in free is by using anti-matter objects. I shall explain:
You need to have 2 objects : one base shape that you want the shape cut from, and one object the shape of the cut part. Having more then one anti-matter object can sometimes create probjems if they overlap (two negatives make a positive!), so make sure there are no overlapping a-m objects.
To make the cutting object anti-matter, select it and go to the project window. Find the object in the project window (the hilighted one), and expand its properties. Simply check the anti-matter box. I would like to take this point to explain that this is why it is always good to name (or label) objects using the object property pallet.
You will need to texture the anti-matter object the texture that you want to cut away section to be, as it cuts away the texture that it is.
Hope that made sense
