I work for no studio/company, nor for any store, I am the supreme master of the world. Hmmm, I wish, no I just have good connections, and can get NFR copys of just about any major app legally.

EX: I got Photoshop 7, Indesign 2, After Effects PB, Illustrataor 10, Mac OS X 10.2 (and the dev toolkit), Livemotion 2, Golive 6... Need I go on. (I will also add that it is quite legal).

All the same, since all these apps are OS X native, I am almost entirley OS X native. However 3 apps are not. Ureal Tournament (there is something wroing with the OS X version), Diablo II ( it has a bug that crashes If I try to load high level characters), and none of my 3D apps (grrrr). Is the EDU version of Lightwave any good just to try out?

Now you can all verbally plummet me for braggin so much. However, I do only have a G4 733 (old and slow) with 256Mb of RAM and a 40Gb Hard Disk (with only 8 gigs left) and no internet connection (I am both poor and rich).

Enough about me, Go watch Lord Of The Rings 🙂

I found that at the Stratacafe, and this is one of my old models in Strata.

Its an extremely nice and versatile program. Just because you might happen to not like it, doesnt mean its a bad program!

Anyway, you can download the old free version of Strata 3D (version 3.0.2 incase you wanted to know) from my site in the Strata Downloads section. You will also need the resource pack for it. which is available on the same downloads page. Instructions to get it working are included in the Resource Pack.

As a side note, Mechanisto is a very limited and basic program. In the right hands however it can be very good!

      Enjoy,
      ewan

Jules - you are my new god. I have been searching for Strata3D for ages now. The website stopped giving it out for free, and... well... now i have it again! Ahhhh now i can relax in the comfort of my own house knowing that my computer has Strata 3d installed. So anyway, all hail Jules!

    • Anyone care to link to a little tutorial for Strata3D? I'm pretty clueless when it comes to 3d programs, and I've always had the impression that most of them consisted of drawing little lines between little dots to make shapes...which would seem like a pretty easy way to do it.

But anyway, I don't need it for anything fancy. I just wanna be able to make something to make stand-in graphics for an EVN plugin. I'm not crazy enough to think I have the artistic skills to make the final image I'd need.

      ------------------

    • Well theres a couple of tutorials on my site (see the link in my sig). Also, have a look at (url="http://"http://www.1n2.be/strata/")this site(/url). There are hundreds of tutorials on there.

Also, (url="http://"http://www.stratacafe.com/")the Stratacafe(/url), has opened a new sister site, (url="http://"http://www.stratatraining.com/")StrataTraining.com(/url).

That is of course, you are using Strata. If you need a copy, see the Strata Downloads page in (url="http://"http://www.evula.org/ewan/")my site(/url).

Yes, you are absurdly lucky. Im running Strata free on a 400Mhz G3 Powerbook with a 6Gb disk. I do have more RAM than you though - 320 baby

Ive seen LOTR:TTT. I didnt like it that much to be perfectly honest. the changes from the book I thought were a bit too much. We did like Golumn though didnt we precioussss.... But thats enough off topicness for me 😛

      Grrrrr

/me bashes head against wall, I thought I was god here. Hello.

LOL, that would be kinda cool, a few godlike beings grappling for the belife of many small insignificant beings.

Anyway Strata 3D is very cool, I have used it for 2 years now and have always been impressed (and that was v1.75+!!!) I can only imagine how good it is now.

Has anyone seen the Warcraft III cinematics, WOW, they where made with a combination of Lightwave 3D, Maya, and 3DS Max. That's the kinda stuff you can't do in Strata. Nor in most single 3D programs.

Duh, I just remembered I own Black & White, forget the above mentioned "cool idea" I had.

You little bastard (320mb), okay, you are right, I have to go to 512 before I get Lightwave or Strata, 256 isn't enough. LOL, I've been meaning to go to 512 every since I found I can't run Warcraft III and Photoshop 7 at the same time, dratted slow computer.

I seem to have an unusually high RAM to disk space ratio, though-352 megs to 5 gigs. Of course, I've got the 60 or 70 ns stuff instead because I'm using a 9600 tower.

Dude, those are hella good, I have a 9600/350 that I used before the G4, I skipped the G3 line completley becuase the 9600 was better than any of the G3's.

Ha, ha, you win in the RAM department, but not in the Video Card Department, I have a Radeon 9000, lol. I don't mention that usually becuase people beat me up for it. (Unreal Tournament runs at 173 fps average) lol, me likes.

One of my friends may be getting a Radeon 9700. Course, it'll be with a Wintel... The iBook will run Quake III fine at maximum settings, so I'm happy. How did the Absolut person do the text wrap on the object?

      ------------------

    • I love my 9600 (especially since I now have a G3 400 in it instead of the Dual 200 (since I don't use Photoshop and obviously don't run OS X, they just weren't working for me)), I just wish I had faster RAM and a better processor. If I had the money it'd be no problem to get a decent video card and hard drives...I've still got like 3 open PCI slots, even with the two video cards in it that I don't use (the default that came with it and a Voodoo 3 cause I don't have a VGA monitor or adapter cable...yet).
These can still be sweet machines...but it's cheaper to just buy a new computer. :frown:

Im pretty sure that would just be a high res image map with a transparency map projected onto one side of the bottle. I dont think it would be hard at all to do. The image isnt that complex. There are some nice little geometry details in there (like the emblum bulge), but I mainly just posted the image to show the quality of the rendering engine, and the nice light settings, etc.

A great image doesnt have to be overly complex. More important, generally is nice composition and good manipulation of the program to make an image that is as near to "real" (what ever that may be) as possible.

On the subject of nice Strata pics, have a look at these:

    • Someone mentioned Maya, saying it was really expensive. Apparently there's a free version too:

      Quote

Since then Alias|Wavefront has released the Mac version of Maya 4.5 Personal Learning Edition, a free feature-limited version of the software that enables neophyte to 3D editing to learn how Maya works, along with a public beta release of the mental ray for Maya 1.5 plug-in, a new rendering engine that some Maya users prefer to the one included with Maya itself.

There are a few bugs with some graphics cards and 10.2.3, though.

Free versions are always crap in comparison to full versions (personally, I think that Maya is crap, but that's just me). However, if you are a student, you can get your hands on the full version of Maya at a greatly reduced price. Not 20 bucks, but still cheap.

hehe I've got a 300 mhz blue and white G3 with a gig of ram, 80 gig of hard drive space and a cable modem and none of that helps much when your still working off a 300mhz G3 cpu.

By the way, While where on the subjuct. In Strata, can any one tell me how to add details like cutting grooves in to the shape or "drilling" wholes through a shape or simply slicing off a piece of a shape? These seem to me to be things that any 3d program worth it's salt should be able to do. Also about textures or making and using custom textures to be more specific. I was trying to make the rough shape for the Jupiter2 from the Lost In Space movie and then use a screen shot I took from the scene in the movie when they are flying through the planet and the ship turns sideways over the water(the only good overhead shot in the movie) to wrap around the ship but it looks like crap. ANy suggestions?
