Hmmm, not to sound like a newbie, but I was coming south from the Gwyden Camp and at the edge of the forest on one of the screens there was a light blue flashing circle with a big "S" in the middle of it. Does this hold any significance? Didn't seem to be able to do anything with it.

The flashing "S" means that there is a secret area nearby. That particular secret passageway allows you to bypass a lot of your trudge to Gwyden Camp (and pick up some goodies on the way.)

Now, what about a white structure I found once? It wasn't animated, it was maybe 10 feet tall (if the hero is six feet), and it looked like a double sundial with a white stone circle in the middle. I have no idea where it was. Somewhere north of Fantrima, east too, I think.
