    • Testers Needed for Nova MissionComputer

MissionComputer is coming to EV Nova, and completion is looking a lot closer from this side of the mďsn editor.

While not yet complete, the new version is approaching the point at which it begins to make sense to package it out to a group of testers while I implement the remaining features. I considered doing this through the Master Beta Tester List, but the aim here is rather different; while that list is for plug-in developers seeking beta testers, what I'm looking for is plug-in developers to be beta testers.

MissionComputer 2.0's main feature is support for EV Nova; it's by no means comprehensive yet, although I'm working on it. My aim for release is to have at least all the editors present in version 1.4 to support EV Nova, probably with a few new ones added. It retains the same system requirements (very little) and the same price (free) as previous versions, and runs natively on both Mac OS X and older Mac OS versions - people have reported that previous versions run acceptably on System 7. No features have been removed; MissionComputer 2.0 will be an editor for all three Escape Velocity games.

So, what I'm looking for at this point is people who are currently in the process of developing a plug-in for EV Nova and would find it useful to have an added utility to ease their development work. Basically, it means that you use MissionComputer 2.0 to develop your plug-in, reporting any problems you have with it, and your payment is to be able to use MissionComputer 2.0 to develop your plug-in, and of course a mention in the credits.

I don't yet have a timeframe for exactly when MissionComputer 2.0 will go out to testers, but if you're interested, please contact me with the details of what you'll be using it for. You can either post it here, or if you don't want to discuss your project in public at this point, contact me by email or by a private message on the (url="http://"http://www.ev-nova.net/forums/")EV-Nova.net Forums(/url). If you want to take a look at the current release version of MissionComputer for Escape Velocity and EV Override, it's available from (url="http://"http://davidarthur.evula.net/")davidarthur.evula.net(/url). I've also posted a (url="http://"http://www.ev-nova.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=778")progress update(/url) and some (url="http://"http://www.ev-nova.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=581")early screen shots(/url) of MissionComputer 2.0.

    • I'd definitly be willing to test this program.

Right now I'm developing (url="http://"http://www.evula.org/the_castes")The Castes(/url). It's a TC, although the chances of me finishing it anytime soon (think within 4 months) is very low.

    • I'd like to test out MissionComputer 2.0

I'll be using it for two plugs:

First one is a "Hypergate Restoration" plug, where you receive missions from Sigma
to repair broken hypergates. (though I think there are engine limitations on how
well my plan will be carried out)

Second is a (hopefully TC) plugin of Tolkien's First Age of Middle Earth, based
on Silmarillion and other writings. A space version of the classic fantasy world.

Both plugs will be mostly mission based, and the Silmarillion is going to have a
convoluted government structure to more accurately represent the bonds and hidden
      feuds between the elven houses.

It'll be used in my Star Trek: Incursions (working title) TC. Given that I'll probably be writing every mission from scratch, anything that can save me time would be most appreciated.

    • I would love to be a tester. One of my current projects is the MissionPack, a plugin which adds some minor mission to EV:N. It would be a great help to have something like the MissionComputer. You can have a look at the latest version of the MissionPack (url="http://"http://www.geocities.com/newkongindustries/missionpack")here(/url).

Hehe, I'm workin' on a pack of missions for Nova too, nothing major, but some minor stories (go here, go there, pick up this, dump it there - stuff).

Sign me up on the testing-list, I would be happy to help you!
