Uh, what exactly is your problem? It seems to me that you have a new computer and have a new registration code that you got by e-mailing Ambrosia's Lost Codes Address. What exactly do you need help with? I know why your version of PoG transferred as not registered (it's because the file that tells your computer that you have registered is not located with the game, but with all your Preferences files), but I still don't know what you need help with.

    • uhhh well the problem was that I couldn't get it to register on the new computer so I re-registered it on the older computer. anyway can you tell me more about the file in th prefs what is it titled? can I move it to the new computer to make it register on the new computer??

    • Email Ambrosia at lost codes and get a code. Copy the game to the new computer. Type in the new code. You're done. Relatively painless. Why do it the hard way when you can do it the easy way (not to mention, the way it is supposed to be done)? Do that and you'll be fine.

    • ok thanks, wait, will this also disable my current code. I assume it will.

    • Mr. Spazzybob,

When you copy Ambrosia games to your computer they will be unregistered and in need of being registered.

Once you register a product you are given a license code for that product. This code expires in 30 days from its creation. Once the code is entered into the product the game is registered and this registration does not expire.

If you get a new computer and want to transfer the files then you will need to register the game on the new computer.

Do this one of 3 ways:

      • If you have your code and it has not expired, open up the registration application on the new computer and enter your code. It will be accepted, the game will be registered, and you are good to go.

      • If you have your code but it has expired, open up the registration application on the new computer and enter your code. It will say that it has expired, but you can then click on the button "Get new code." Make sure your internet connection is up and running, as the game will then send a request to Ambrosia's server for a new code, receive the new code, and the game will be registered automatically. You are now good to go.

      • If you do not have your code then you will need to send an email to lostcodes@ambrosiasw.com requesting a code. Include your full name, address, and product you need a code for. They will look up your info and verify you purchased the product, then send you a new code. Open the registration application, enter the code they give you, and everything should be good.

      Make sense?

Really? This is news to me! If I had known this I would've kept my original code over the summer instead of having to get a new one..... And I would have kept that code instead of having to get a new one when my dad wiped out harddrive because of bugs..... And I would've kept that one because last night my dad wiped our harddrive because a mysterious program somehoiw attatched to our harddrive.....
Sheez. And by the way, although they suggest e-mailing on the site, originally when I hadn't read this (How young and foolish I was) I phoned them and got a new code. (This would be the first time I needed a new code)
What worried me about this though was their laser defense security to make sure piraters don't get free codes by calling... there was none... They asked for no personal information from me on my original purchase of PoG... They just gave me a new code. (Let's just hope this post doesn't fall into the wrong hands)

Well, they would have needed your name in order to issue you a code, as the license codes are keyed into your name. Since you were phoning them they probably were next to a computer(in order to generate the code anyhow) and probably looked up your account as soon as you gave them your name, verified you had purchased PoG, and had their key generator make you a new key.

But they didn't have my name. I expected them to ask for either that or my old code so I had my slip of paper they sent me with my disk with that info next to me, but they never asked. I just told them my story and they gave me a new code.
But here's something I hadn't thought of before. Maybe they somehow picked up my number when I called and used that? I don't remember, does Ambrosia take your number when you register their products?

The phone number blank is optional. I checked the online registration thing.

    • Personally, I would do a clean install on the new system but would transfer the character data and associated files for that current play to the new system.
You should be able to play them unless you got a revised version installed, or some strange OS version that might change things.
      Just a thought

No, the game would run but the Registration would be cleaned because the code is tied in with the preferences on your computer. (I think. I also think somebody else said this thing about preferences, but I can't remember who...) If you clean your harddrive, you're also cleaning your code.

    • Can't be too clean now a days!
One of the things I learned in MAC school years ago is to NOT copy existing programs to and from other systems. Data files are OK but you invite a bit of error everytime you do this and could end up corrupting something along the line.
A clean install does not drag any un-necessary clutter along with it and keying in a new registration code should not be a big deal although you do have to wait for it.
I have an old registration code (about 3-4 years old) that I used for a different Ambrosia game and used it after I completely wiped out my drive and reinstalled it and it all worked fine!
Do what works for you but if its really critical data I wouldn't want to take any chances on corrupting it otherwise!
