    • Thanks, first of all I may may I found the answer to the first problem. when I was at Dr. Ralphs website downloading Nova Tools, I only downloaded the first thing on the list of downloads he had. Do I need all of them? Secondly when I try and edit a resource that i can edit, it doesn't seem to affect anything in the game. maybe I was just doing it wrong, I dunno. What I meant when I said I didn't know how to make plug ins was just that that. How do you do it? It seems to me that If you're just editing the resources you're only editing you're copy of the game. How do you make a plug in that can be released? When I alter resources I'm not doing anything to or in the Plug-Ins folder. could somebody please explain how to do it and don't leav anything out, no matter how basic. Treat me like i'm a moron. Thanks.
      Update
I'm figuring out how to make plugs, the tutorial links were great, but I still can't edit or create new spob, syst, or ship resources. Please help.

    • Update
I can now edit all the resources.
      But:
In weap, ship, or outf resource how and where do you tie a graphic and a desc to the item. I can only make it use the default.

Using ID numbers. Look in the NovaTools menu in ResEdit for the Res ID conventions submenu. That will show you the conversions.

    • ID's are the ones that start at 128, right? That's not what I meant though. I wanted to know what feild you enter the ID #'s into.
      ALSO
      How do you name resources?
      ALSO
How do you link graphics and sprites to a ship (in flight). What fields are used and where are the ship graphics to be found (ones that come with the game)

      That's it I think.

      1. It's not a field, it's automatic. If you have a ship with an ID of 129, then the ID of the shipyard dësc is 13001, the hire dësc is ID 14001, the target graphic is ID 3001, the shipyard graphic is ID 5001, etc... This is all explained in the EV:Nova Bible.

      2. It's irrelevant.

      3. See #1. Set the shän ID to the ID of the shďp resource that you want.

Does that answer your question, or do you have any more questions?

    • Thanks, my question is answered. I don't really understand the answer, but I'll read the Bible again closely.
      Thanks

In ResEdit with one of the NovaTools editors open, go up to the NovaTools menu and look at the Res ID Conventions submenu. Perhaps that will answer your question better.

Naming resources is not always irrelevant. In some cases the name is used in game. It's also done in the same dialog that allows you to change the resource ID, which you'll more than likely want to do.

From the resource list, select the one you want to change, and then choose "Get Resource Info" from the "Resource" menu (Cmd-I). Then just enter the new ID and/or name in the appropriate fields.
