    • Linking Descs To Planets

How exactly does one link up descs to planets, and their bar's, and their shipyards and so on? Do I have to use the special ID numbers set aside for those descriptions with the assumption that the first ID number for Bars is put in the first ID number for planets? (Perhaps that would explain the blank descs that eat up numbers, maybe for planets without bars or shipyards). Or is there something that I am just missing.

Secondly, how can I make my plug-in take precedence over the actual game itself, I put it in the plug-ins folder, but the normal game booted up instead of the plug-in. Sorry for the noobish spray I am spreading over the web board, but I checked the Bible and really couldn't find anything to help explain this for me. Thanks.

If the plug is in the Plugins folder and is made correctly, it will load automatically. You will get the starting screen for the game (EV/Override/Nova, whatever game you are playing) but the data in your plug will supersede the data in the game files automatically.

Then how do I make a plug that just alters the game and doesn't supercede it? Is there anyway to specify which I want it to do? Supercede or modify.

It's supercede meant in a light way. The only way to modify things is to replace certain resource types in the main data files.

For example, if I want to replace a desc that supplies the text for the description of Earth, then I just make a plug-in with a desc resource with the ID# 128. Thus, the desc in your plug-in will supercede the desc resource with the same ID# (which is 128).

It is pretty hard to supercede the whole game....you'll have to make a lot of resources that correspond with each of the resources in the main data files (matching ID# for ID#).

P.S. You should read the Nova Bible, which is the most comprehensive info on what desc ID#'s link to what spob/bar.

Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne

    • I did read the Bible, and it wasn't exactly clear how things linked. What it did say though is that it can be found in the spöbs but all I could find via linkup was a box for a custom pict... I shall try againt though using my first bar ID corresponds with first planet ID.

    • I'm no expert on Nova development, but I've done quite a bit with EV and EVO and have skimmed the Nova bible.

As far as I understand it, the descs for bars and descs are in no way linked to the spob. The first desc, #128, links to the first spob; #129 links to the second, and so on. The bar descs are the same -- 10000 links to the first spob, 10001 links to the second, and, well, you get the point.

If that doesn't make sense, I'll try to explain a different way. If I'm wrong, well, somebody correct me.

Yup, I just checked the resource files. You were right on.
