    • Vellos ship glows Change color?

As the subject says, I'd like to change the tint or color of the ship glows (let's say to red)

How would I go about doing this?
      .
      .
      .
      .
And after telling me the best way, what would be another way?

Can it be done in Frotoshop (photoshop)?

    • You can do it in photoshop, but it'd take a while to get it to look right. You'd need to convert the rlë*s to sprites first too. Mess with levels, and other stuff, and you might be able to get a good red.

    • To type out the steps illustrated by Normal Guy:

Copy the Vell-os glow RlëDs into a new ResEdit file, make a spďn resource, making sure the RlëDs are properly being used by the spďn thingies.

Plop the file in DeRle and click "OK."

Take the PICT file into Photoshop and tamper with the color balances (adjust the magenta and red most)

Reverse the steps to put in a plug-in.

Another way would be re-modeling the vell-os ships and make red glows.

I'd rather make a try at the photoshop tamper method, rather then re-modeling. The second way implies I actually have the software to do it!

This could tangent into one of those "try BLAH free modelling program, but I'd rather it not go that route. I'll run it past a friend who has a little knowledge in this area (after he stops laughing when I tell him I can't do it my self 🙂 )

A disbeliever! You need to get (url="http://"http://www.povray.org/")POV-Ray(/url).

And Mantaray, your signature is missing "evula.org"......... Mwuhuhahahaa.

    • I'v done this kind of thing alot, a quick way once its a pic is open it in photoshop, choose red, pick a giant paintbrush, switch it to hue effect, and turn the glow to red / pinkish color in a flash. you may also want to try Color burn / dodge effect for the brush.

Thanks, this is an easy way of recycling ships. But this only would work on the Vellos (maybe the Polarans).
Fortunately I am only working with the Vellos mission

You could repaint other Gov. ships this way, but your have to use a small brush and go over specific parts image to image. Like I made a blue marked Auroran Carrier under fed control, without it looking like it was just hued over like a paint outfit.

the only bad part about that is that you have to edit it 36 times...

...or more, because some of the bigger ships have more than 36 frames per rotation.

    • And ARG!! The color change of each of those sprites would be different as the glow increases and decreases.

I am definitely not going to worry about this until I have everything else done.

    • Ah. Following what Normal Guy said, I went into photoshop and messed with Hue/Saturation:
      Dart Base.................................................Dart Glow
      http://www.angelfire...es/Dart.jpg.txt http://www.angelfire...artglow.jpg.txt

Stick these two (with the unaltered shän for the vell-os dart, and the proper masks, making sure the ID numbers are how they should be) into a new file and run EnRLE. Open up the shän and take a look with and without glows activated. Try it in the game to see how it works. I don't know exactly what you have in mind, but examples are nice.

The whole thing took me only a few minutes. Most of the time was just figuring out what Hue I wanted.

(Edit: Note that these are both 16-bit mode (rlëDs). I did not create any for 8-bit.)
