    • EV/O: STR# 5006?


      I'm wondering about this resource, STR# 5006. It's listed in EV as "Ship Comm Short Names," even though a different set of strings is used for those (also Ship Comm Short Names); it's listed in EVO as Ship Transponder Codes, though I think the names of the ship IDs are used for the HUD names.

      Are the strings here used at all? In both EV and EVO, they're used. However, in some plug-ins, most notably EV Game Expander, it doesn't seem to have an effect (in EVGE the resource wasn't patched with STRs, but there's nothing missing from the plug-in).

      Anybody got any definite answers? Thanks in advance.

      I'm pretty sure that "Ship Transponder Codes" is (5006) are used in the HUD as the type of ship that you have targeted (UE Fighter, UE Cruiser, Azdara, etc), and I think, but am not sure (since I'm not running EVO right now) that it's also in the comm screen. The "Ship Comm Short Names" (5008) is used in the comm screen in the bottom right hand corner.

      Hmm, in EV (classic), in STR# 5006 the Executive Transport is listed as VIP Transport, and that doesn't show up anywhere...

      But then again, in EVO, the Miranu Heavy Freighter is listed as Miranu H. Freighter, which I'm pretty sure it has to show up as, otherwise it wouldn't fit.

      I'm guessing (I'm hoping someone can confirm this) that the engine will use the ship ID name unless there's an entry for it in STR# 5006. EVO doesn't have anything in STR# 5006 for the escape pod, for example.
