    • Sounds for a TC plug

I volunteered to do the sounds for the upcoming Star Wars TC plug-in for EVN. I have not yet started.

How do I import sounds for the plug? I have looked at the bible but I would like for someone with sound experience in Nova to help me along. I have little if any experience with sound editing but I also have the entire summer to learn. I also need a list of sound editing and importing software, preferably cheap or free. I have a G3 350 with OS 9.2.2. A website with sound bytes would be helpful as well.

      Any assistance would be appreciated.

    • Well, there are several options that you have:

      1. You get some video/sound input hardware and software, and then you get something like SoundEdit 16 to edit your captured sounds, and the copy them into a plug.

      2. Or you get the SW2 plugin for either EV or EVO (it doesn't matter which), and you simply copy the sound resources out of that plug and into yours.

Well, generally it's a good idea to ask for permission or something...

    • Well, I downloaded the EVO Star Wars plug-in and was dissapointed. There are only around 10 sounds I could use and all of them have static in the background. Does any one know where I could download good quality Star Wars sounds?

    • (url="http://"http://www.eskimo.com/~pristine/audio.html")Pure Mac(/url) has a nice list of good/available audio tools. I'd personally recommend (url="http://"http://www.eskimo.com/~pristine/audio.html#sndsamp")SndSampler(/url) - it's remarkably good, and shareware to boot.

You might also want to use (url="http://"http://www.eskimo.com/~pristine/audio.html#sndapp")SoundApp(/url) to convert sound files such as mp3s to sys7/aiff.

There are probably newer/better things out there, but those are the two I'm personally familiar with and can recommend. SndSampler is pre-carbon, and I'm not sure about SoundApp.

Generally speaking, the sounds that are used in Star Wars are owned by LucasArts, and they'd probably sue the crap out of anyone who distributed their property online. I'd say that the only places that you might be able to get sounds are off of games. X-Wing, TIE Fighter, Rebel Assault, Rebel Assault II, etc.

    • I use (url="http://"http://www.riccisoft.com/soundeffects/")SoundEffects(/url) (which is now (url="http://"http://www.micromat.com/soundMaker/main_soundMaker.html")SoundMaker(/url) from (url="http://"http://www.micromat.com")MicroMat, Inc.(/url), but is still available (url="http://"http://www.riccisoft.com/soundeffects/")here(/url)) for most of my sound work. But than - I don't do much sound work. 😉

A quick (url="http://"http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q;=Star+Wars+Sounds")search(/url) on (url="http://"http://www.google.com")google(/url) yielded many sites with starwars sounds on them. Mostly talking, and with lots of static, but I found a 'couple of good blaster sounds on one page. (no readily audiable static either!)

If you really need perfectly-static-free sounds, you could wait 'till Jedi Knight 2 comes out, and rip some sounds off of that. 😉

I used Google to search and all that I came up with were non-downloadable sounds. I cant download them onto my HD. Any other suggestions?

Snapz Pro 2 has video capturing with sound. Just start recording, play the sound, and stop recording. Use those audio utilities to mess with it, I think.

I used to use Soundeffects, but then I realized you were supposed to pay for it. Since then I've switch to Audacity, a nice little freeware tool that you can download off of CNet.

    • There would be probably no problem using starwars movie sounds in your plugin. It is not like you are making money off it, or like any Lucas employee would ever hear the plugin, and assuming one did, why would they care, it is not like they could sue you and make any money anyway, it, I am sure would not be a problem, but do as you will.
