    • Would this work?

I have a question. Before, I had an idea of making a ship that carried a superweapon, and had an idea for making it look as if it was charging up and then shoot the big blast. Could you tell me if this would work? Okay, I was thinking that to make the charging up and the superweapon, the superweapon could be a beam or plasma ball or something like that, and then the ship would have like two other weapons. One weapon would be electricity tthat has extremely short life so that it doesn't float away from the ship. The second one would be more electricity the same as the first. These two electricities and the superweapon could have their recharge rates timed so that electricity one goes first, then number 2, then the superweapon. In the end in the game you would see the 2 electricities, and then the weapon would fire. It might not be some great idea I know, I was just wondering if it could be made to work. Thanks, and sorry if this is a little vague. By the way, this was an idea developed indpendently by me, I did not copy anyone else.

Hmm. I see what you are getting at, but it may be difficult. First off, the AI won't fire at anything that is out of range. I do not know myself of any way of having the graphics (i.e., the "Charging Up") occur over by the ship while the "weapon" that instigated them was firing at a distant target.

Secondly, trusting the AI to fire the correct weapons, in sequence...well, it ain't that likely.

I'm tempted by thoughts of very slow rockets with edited graphics, or a new Spin for one of the smoke trails, or the old kamikaze fighter approach. All of them founder on the shoals of the actual game. I have one idea that might work some of the time; tie the charging graphics into the ship's own Spin resource; if you are lucky enough it will turn and fire (apparently "charging up" while it turns). Of course, the "charging up" graphics would linger on...

      Anyone else have an idea?

    • Sorry, but there is no way to accomplish this illusion with EV or EVO... you'll be able to do it in EVN, though!

    • Yeah, things like that would be very hard to do in EV. EV was programmed, I think, without a lot of thought for Plug-In developers. EVO tried to make up for that, but I don't think you could do this in EVO, either.

Yet another reason to salivate at the thought of EVN... 🙂

...for the very good reason that there were no such things as plug-ins until version 1.0.1.

In EVN, if you make them the ship's only primary weapons and set up the BurstReload functions correctly, you could have a similar effect -- but only with the first charge-up graphic. See the bible for further details (no, sorry, I don't have a link to it).

    • I have the answear to your question! Make a weapon that fires a spin that looks like its powering up, then make it fire submunitions that is the actual weapon.

    • Nope I didnt, but now that Im at it, I tried to make a weapon which first fired something that looked like it was charging up, then I added a submunition as the real weapon. The main weapon was a beam weapon, so i wonder, can beams be submunitions? Also, what is the Sub Theta in the weapon editor?
