    • Editing the (EV:N) data files

I know this has been asked before, but my plan is a little different... my problem with EV:N is that it takes far too long to start up for me (slow computer) and so I was wondering if it was possible to edit the data files so there would be only one planet, one ship etc so I can test my plug-in quicker and it would start up faster.

    • Sure. Backup the data files and delete everything you don't need to test your plug-in.

    • The quickest way to speed up loading time is to remove the Nova Music file, or replace it with a much shorter song.

...or simply turn off the intro music.

    • When I disabled intro music there was no change in loading speed. It still took ages.

    • I've managed to get it to start up very quickly. Delete most of the descs, ships, dudes, systs and spobs, (i.e all but one) make sure you modify all resource numbers so there are no errors, delete all outfits, missions, weapons, fleets etc... but don't mess with any of the Nova Ships files, it doesn't like that (and as said, turn off the music) it takes about 5 seconds to start up, and so I can test things very quickly. If anyone is interested in these modified files as a way to start up Nova, e-mail me. Is it okay to distribute modified nova files?

Best thing to do is probably to upload the files to Ambrosia's add-ons directory and let them decide whether they want the files redistributed or not.

    • I did the same thing as you, it took around 12 minutes to load on my computer. So what I did was delete all spöbs, systs, dudes, flets, wëaps, outfs and ships from all of the Nova Files. Second, I deleted all shäns EXCEPT ID 845, the escape pod, and 128, the shuttle. Afterwards, delete all rles except for the shuttle base, engine glow, running lights, and the escape pod. It will take around 15 seconds to load the game.
