    • Problem changing start system

I'm trying to create a plug-in that changes the starting system from Kania to Sol but it's not working right. I copied both systems out of "Nova Data 2" and swapped their resource IDs. I then copied each system that Kania and Sol have links to and swapped 128 and 130 everywhere. When I started a new player, I ended up starting in Moonrise or some other seemingly random system.

I also attempted a more simple plug-in involving just Kania and Sol, not worrying about incorrect system links, and had similar problems. I also tried slowly morphing Kania into Sol but eventually ran into the same issue.

Has anyone else run into this? Is there something special about the Sol system that makes it different from others?

As a sort-of related problem, I noticed some strange behavior while doing my tests. I created a character, Test Dummy, and kept using the same character name each time I did a test. Somehow, that character name has become stuck to the plug-in or something. Even with the plug-in removed, if I create a character named "Test Dummy", he often still starts in a random system instead of Kania. I even tried trashing the actual character files in between tests and had the same result. If there's no logical reason for it, I guess I'll just always use unique character names until I get the start system problem resolved. Thanks.

    • Okay, what you want to do is make a new chär, or replace the existing one where it has the player start at the system you want, and no others. Unlike EV/O, Nova uses the chär to determine where a player begins, not the system at ID 128.

    • Ahh... thank you for that tip. The documentation concerning syst resources isn't quite right, then (at least the version of the EV Nova Bible that I have).

This also explains the seemingly random system start even without the plug-in installed. It seems everything was behaving exactly the way it was supposed to. Sorry for not reading enough docs before posting.
