    • Weapon Questions


      I'm trying to make what amounts to an energy siphon, a beam that damages the enemy's shields, and adds either shields or fuel back to your ship. I'm thinking either have it massively increase shield or fuel recharge only when the weapon is firing, is there any way to do this? What about making the beam use negative amounts of fuel? Also, for weapons in general, is it possible to make an outfit that will regenerate ammo in flight? I know I had a couple other questions, but I'm drawing a blank, so I'll post 'em later. 🙂

    • You know, I've been trying to do that for EVO for months and months and it still puzzles me, but I think I'm getting warmer somehow. I'll let you know when I get it perfected

    • You could go for the long reload option instead, the weapon deosn'rt use any ammo at all.

      I am trying to make a two stage guided weapon, you fire/drop off the first stage which then launches multiple summunitions at the target of your choice, but it aint happening, the closest i can get is to make a fighter unit that self destructs when it launches.

    • Unfortunately there is no OnFire field in Nova. If there were, many ideas could be made possible, including several of my own. I'm not sure how you idea could be done, but if anyone can think of a work-around to the more broader issue though, I'd love to hear it.

    • Well, I found out that it's impossible to do it, for EVO at least. There was never any option flag settings for increasing or decreasing shield per shots fired in the weaps resource. When I tried to set the flag in the weaps resource to 1001 with out the negative in the front for ammotype, it wouldn't work.

      One could try to alter the option in the outfit resource, the problem was that it would contantly drain your fuel or replentish it regardless if you fired a single shot or not.

      I tried a negative value on shield boosting in the outfit resource to see what would happen, well, no effect at all.

      I'm afraid it's a lost cause. Unless someone really knew how to and would be generous to tell us all.

    • Actually what I meant was do something like -994, or whatever, but that probably wouldn't work, and EV might take that as something different anyway. I'm not looking at the bible right now, but that'd probably be your best bet... If it works, tell me, cuz that'd be cool.

    • Well, I tried a bunch of ideas and so far, no luck. Apparently, any ammotype over 255 causes nova to choke. Looks like I may just have to change my ideas, though I did figure out (it's kind of a "duh") that I can make a beam weapon use an ammo outfit at the the end of a certain length burst, and I can make a packet weapon use fuel. That could come in handy...

    • And what if that ammo outfit gave you -shields? Kind of a hack, but when it's used up, your shields go up...

      Does that work? Even if it does, you'll have the problem of less shields than you normally would have.

    • Using fuel is easier. I made a weapon that uses like 100 fuel per shot, but also made it give the player a LOT of fuel. That way you could fire quickly a couple times, and then your firing rate drops dramatically.

      Plasma Siphon does that too, it not only drains your fuel per shots but also functions as a fuel scoop but at a very slow rate, the only difference is that it's not a beam. And I think kbmeister wanted to know if there was a way to add fuel and/or shield per shot which there isn't a feature for that in the first place, and yes I did try to change the negative value and vise versa and as I said before, it's no good.

    • those are the only solutions that I could think of, so the conclusion is that being able to "siphon" energy upon firing is not possible.
